I'd take a look at the moon phase plus weather before leaving home....adjust your trip accordingly! I was on Dutton 2 years in a row. The first year was full moon and around 80 degrees every day...the next no moon with afternoon rain showers and around 60 degrees. Boy did the moon phase and temperatures make a lot of difference!
The year it was 80's and full moon the elk were in the timber about 20 minutes after sunrise and didn't come out until about 20 minutes before sunset. I hardly saw an elk or heard a bugle other than these short intervals of time. Talk about long days of waiting them out! Dutton can seem like a hot, dusty, barren mountain when it is hot! In fact, the first year I came super close to turning in my tag because the conditions were so horrible! I'm sure that is why a lot of guys that know Dutton don't recommend scouting until the weather cools down...unless you are learning access points, etc.
The next year it rained a few days plus no moon and the elk were pretty much out and bugling off and on all day long. Hopefully you have good conditions on your hunt! Dutton can be feast or famine depending upon on the moon and weather from archery through the muzzy season depending upon the moon and weather.
