I have a chance at a last minute MD hunt. I mostly hunt coues deer. I have a 6.5 swedish sighted in shooting 2620 fps with 129 grain SST's and a 25-06 sighted in shooting 115 grain Winchester Balistic silvertips.(haven't cronnied that load.)The hunt is in 2 weeks. The MD will be in the 150-200 lb. range where I am hunting. Shots will be under 300 yards. Will either of these combos work or should I go get a different bullet for the hunt. Thx!

You are good to go!

I shoot the SST in my 6.5x284 and love it.

Can't suggest any marginal shots tho.........

Good luck and get a big-un.

Either one as long as your bullet placement is perfect(ie: heart/lung shot). In my experience, the ballistic tips are a good choice if you just flat want a critter down in a hurry! I'd take the 25-06.

I don't have anything good to say about ballistic tips. I've had them splash on me multiple times. Have not used the SSTs but I understand that they exhibit similar performace. I must add that I've not used them at the modest velocities you reported. I'd use the heavier bullet and stay away from bone. Let us know how they do!

Either one will work as long as you don't try and break any heavy bone. I've been having wonderful luck with the Nosler Accubonds on everything from antelope to elk. I just shot a bull last week with a 160 Accubond in my 7mm. Broke the shoulder, went through the heart, and was found lodged in the opposite shoulder. they have all the accuracy of Ballistic Tips and SSTs, plus they'er constructed heavier. IMO, they're the ultimate bullet for ALL western game. I know they make a 110 in .257 cal.

If you have time to try a different bullet the Barnes X is the best penetrating bullet I have ever used. It has dropped everything I have ever shot with it down on impact (10+ animals)
