LAST EDITED ON Jun-01-11 AT 00:55AM (MST)[p]Anybody know the pahvant? Elk ridge has been my spot for 20 years. This unit is new to me. I'm hunting with wife and daughter so the flatter the terrain the better! Were lookin for 350 or bigger. Would appreciate any help or ideas we can get!

The flatter areas are where the biggest bulls hang.

Joking aside good luck should be an experience having your girls there.

One of my best friends drew the same tag, should be fun!

If you are looking for flat terrain, the Pahvant should have been really low on your list.
Good luck.. Lots of big deep canyons and a few "flatter" areas, but the elk are usually not there! lol..

Deep and steep, welcome to Pahvant. It is a good tag, but by no means will it be a walk in the park. 350+ on a muzzy tag is also a tall order unless you are willing to burn some real boot leather and put a lot of time in or just get plain lucky. Most of the bulls taken on the muzzy that I have seen are in the 300-340 range off the Pahvant.

As others have said here...if you were looking for "flatter" terrain then Pahvant should have been LAST on your list! This is one MEAN NASTY unit! If 350 or better is your goal with a Muzzy...then it gets REALLY REALLY nasty as that is where the bulls hang out on this unit. The big bulls will be in some of the deepest canyons on the Mtn. You can get down in them in an hour or so...and coming back out....well...it can be a challenge!!

But other than that..you drew a some great tags and you will enjoy the hunt, just not on ANY flat ground!

LAST EDITED ON Jun-01-11 AT 10:18AM (MST)[p]SUAVE ... My friend and I drew that tag this year. Hope to see you on the mountain.
Hornyman.. That goes for you too. But your name scares me if your going to be up there with your friend.
Thats six of the Muzzy tags right there.

Time to get some 4 legged critters to pack your wife and daughter around. That place is steep and deep in most places.

"I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded".

What up Ricco, Ricco Suave that is!! I have a couple of resources we can tap into. Should have some good info by the time the hunt gets here. Keep in touch.

SUAVE, how many points did you have going into the draw?

There are some areas that are more accessible near Kanosh versus the Holden and Fillmore areas. You will have to invest some time and the terrain is rugged up high and thick down low. Good luck.

Verticalsmile I mean slope! 8D wife had 16 put her in alone. I had 10 and my daughter had 7, we put in as a team. I'll be ok in the rough stuff. Not sure about the girls

I hope everything goes as planned! I am so glad u wanna b part of this hunt with us! Ur a great guy and a greater friend! Thank u so much!

A friend of mine in aurora has some of them 4 legged critters. That has crossed my mind.

Utahelk1, look forward to seeing u up there this summer.how many tags did they give out for our hunt? Where u from?

Fishlakeelkhunter, how bout the south end? It looks like a lotta country there.they all move north for the peak of the rut or what?

Its not that I was looking for a flat unit to hunt elk in. My wife is not sleek like a cougar! Lol

Is this unit that crappy not to have some 350 bulls in the cedars or what? Let's keep in touch. Look forward to seeing u guys up there. How many mzldr elk tags are there for this hunt?

I'd get some help with three tags, will not be easy to fill 3 tags all on good bulls if you hunt together. I've hunted or helped on the ML twice and still tooks a week each hunt to tag out.

I really don't want to turn any tags back! 3 bulls in 8 or 9 days or whatever with muzzleloaders is gonna be a ##### no doubt. If it was just one of us no worries. We'll just have to put together a hell of a game plan. I'm sure when the time comes we'll have enough help and kill the first day. Lol

Bggmhtr.I Can't think of anybody else I'd rather have come along for this hunt than u! I wish we lived closer. The day we spent together on the blues with ur son and others was an experience like no other. The way ur hunt played out that day was truly incredible and the kill scene on video is the best I've ever seen. The way it played out with the bull coming back for his two lost cows(us) was too good to be true! Congratulations again on such a pretty bull. Let's relive it again!

Well congradulations SUAVE! You're family had some great luck in the draw this year (VEGAS). I can understand your wife drawing with 16 points but to draw a second and third tag with 10 and less is amazing. In my family circle we had several applicants applying for the same hunt with points begining at 15 on down. A friend of mine had 16 and we did not pull a single a permit.

Guess there's always next year, what else can ya do.

Just try to find a bull that isn't broken and shoot that one.
All the 300-340 bulls previously mentioned is probably right considering they were 330-370 bulls before they broke off fighting.

GOOD LUCK. I only know how that unit is during the archery hunt, but you should be able to find yourself some good bulls if you scout like crazy.

It was a big bodied 2 point.

Sounds like I will have the camera this time. To bad you didn't draw the SJ because I will be working down in Monticello all summer and am going to be spending a lot of time scouting for who knows who this year. No worries though, I am confident that you are going to be very successful.

Thanks bro! I donated ten thousand dollars! Now u all know my little secret on how to draw...sorry bout ur unluckiness on the draw there verticalslope. They just as well name the tags once in a lifetime; if that

Sure bggmhtr U can film if u want! I just talked to the rancher that doyle bought the spider bull from. He said he has one that's called the tarantula bull. Supposed to be much bigger, scores around a thousand! I'm stoked about that! Any ideas on where I can borrow a horse trailer to get it up there?

I don't, but I just got a call from Todd Black and he said that he has one and would be willing to let you borrow it as long as he gets the same opportunity at Tarantula. I don't care who gets it I just want to come along.

Good luck to you that is a tough hunt, deep, deep canyons where the big bulls hang right in the bottom of them. You will also have a ton of muzzle loader deer hunters to contend with. It might be limited entry for elk but when you get on the mountain you won't believe the amount of hunters you are going to see.

One good thing is the bulls let there guard down! I'll let doyle and tines up and all the other outfitters know where I'll be and they can help keep the roads blocked off for us!;) it'll all be good. I'm not gonna worry about anything. I'm sure my buddy bill from down there would pack us out the bottom.
I'm tellin u guys were gonna "pinch" in them cedars!

Tell todd no! Doyle is my man. Todd can not leave the SJ's and come over to my new mtn and shoot my thousand point B&C that I invested major $ into. I already told doyle if I miss and he somehow tears outta the horse trailer before I can get him dead he's all his! I plan on shootin him drag him out in the weeds and gut him. Drag him back.
Did u know that todd and doyle are using drones to find and destroy all the biggest bulls now?
They must be doin pretty gOod with their guiding to afford those bad boys.
Oh keep it hush hush its top secret!
