Ft. Carson, CO

Glass-eye~

Fort Carson can be very difficult and frustrating, especially when considering the process to be granted down range permission - classes and weapons serial number verification, etc. Then you are faced with the numerous troops, all the training, the difficult access, being told where to go and being removed from the range permanently if you are discovered hunting in an area that you were not assigned - for example if you see an elk in an open area that you were not assigned you have to drive back to range control and try to change your assignment before being allowed to go back and hunt that area - by then it's probably to late. I can remember when we used to be able to call in and change areas... I also remember when we could not turn our vehicle headlights on and had to drive out in the dark - there were a couple of very interesting trips off range...

You should also factor in the limited success rate for elk and the limited number of antelope tags issued each year.

I have been on several deer hunts on Ft. Carson when they were Great - that is not the case right now.
