My good buddy Mikey sent me this photo from somewhere Eagle Colorado, after he shot this one, a much bigger boy stepped out from the oaks, I can only imagine what a much bigger one might look like, he lives in the area and knows his little pets well. I guess that is the downfall of a 5 day season, dont always get to be to picky. Sure wish our Montana FWP would wake up and start producing bucks like this.

That is a great buck. Although I would hate to see MT have a 5 day season, I agree, 5 weeks of hunting and during the rut won't allow many bucks to reach that trophy size.

Can you imagine all the monsters running around here if we had a 5 day season!!

Does CO really have a 5 day season??

Your buddy shoots a dink! What a let down that must have been for him!

Just kidding of course. WOW!

Great buck! But with two rifles in the background why was the bigger buck not shoot?

I was wondering if somebody was going to ask that question, pretty simple answer actually, one guy on one side of the drainage, the other guy on the opposite. I dont how you guys might do it, but both of these guys are true trophy hunters and wouldnt even consider filling the other guys tag, simple as that.

Ernie-forgot to answer your question, Colorada actually has I believe four five day seasons, with only five days that actually are in the rut. The late season is the hardest to draw and takes typically the most points, email sometime and Ill fill you in, you should start acruing points now, and later in about 10 years, hopefully you would have more time and money to do a hunt down there. I used to live in Eagle county unit 44. As you know there muleys blow ours out of the water, making 270 seem like an average unit. We did see some great bucks up on the front this week however, crappy part is that they are all locked up on private.

Great buck, congrats to the hunter!!
Yep Colorado has 3 major rifle deer seasons West of I-25 (mountains)
as follows:

October 21-29 (2nd)
November 4-10 (3rd)
November 15-19 (4th)*

*Some units dont have a 4th rifle buck
Cant beat the opportunity in CO!
I have 2 days till I leave for 4th rifle!!
This doesnt include the 2 rifle seasons east of I-25 (plains)-different dates.

Nice buck, eagle area has been well known for many years and all the great bucks from there.

"and later in about 10 years, hopefully you would have more time and money to do a hunt down there. "

FUGG THAT!

I'd rather hunt for big bucks every year. There's big ones in MT for sure, just as big as that one. Maybe not out of the truck, but they are there. There's a number of good limited quota areas for the fat and lazy. No doubt there's a lot of places where mature mule deer are non-existant and hunting the rut eliminates the chance for any big bucks.. However, there's many good open units that hold great bucks. Just got to work for them.
