Tule Elk at Hunter Liggett

I was watching the RMEF show this afternoon and a hunter killed a Tule Bull Elk on Hunter Liggett. As a resident of California, I put in several years for a bull tag there and they were only giving out (I believe) one tag. It was a luck of the draw and I was never that lucky. Just wondering how he got his tag if he was connected to RMEF - I have been a member of the RMEF since 1984 and have never met anyone that has hunted any of their properties. Have any of you hunted land they acquired?? Not saying there is something in the woodpile just curious.

I need to clarify something, I know that is a military istallation but not sure if the RMEF did any restoration work on the base.

I saw the show . I thought they said the money for the hunt went to help the soldiers. So I assumed its was a auction tag ? I thought the bull looked small ? But they did say the tule elk was the smallest.

He also took a pig and a blacktail deer on that hunt. Back in the late 70's , while in the military, we hunted this place yearly with some great success. Must have one heck of an auction?

If I recall correctly the world record is about 350-360 B&C, to takes 275 to make book. Archery WR is about 335 and takes about 220 to book. The guys's bull looks to be solid, but not sure it made B&C. Most of the biggest of the bigs come from up north on the Grizzly Island hunt.(disclaimer: see the odds..its no secret)

He stated that he wasn't after a big bull, just a representative bull. And yes, I assumed an auction tag because he obviously planned the hunt and knew he would get the tag,
