Here's just a sample of the Wasatch bulls off the trail cam last week. Thought i'd share for anyone interested in some fun bull pictures. Would you take any of them once they're done growing?

Oh and no it didn't snow the night of the 7th lol. But with this weather we had this spring, your assumption would have been fine.

There are some great bulls there! And I thought the Wasatch was hunted out last year. HAHA

Looks like the same spot from last year?
Is that pretty secluded so you don't have people messing with your stuff?

Yup same spot. It's pretty far out of the way, I've never once seen a boot track that wasn't ours in there. It's a great honey hole for watching bulls early on, but things slow down mid to late august and the bulls spread out a lot more. We usually won't see any cow or calves in here until the rut.

I think the bull that's trying to sprout 7x7 antlers would be a fine trophy when he finishes.
You must have a sweet spot since everywhere I hunt on the mountain usually had a boot track or two... or more.
I think my daughter would be very happy with a bull like that this year. Where is it exactly? LOL
Thanks for sharing your cool pics with us. The season is getting closer with every hot summer day passing.
Best,
Zeke

Sorry to re-post a couple of the pics up there, but I thought I'd see what you guys think and know about antler growth.

Here's two different examples of bulls last year and almost the exact time this year. There's not much antler growth from year to year and I guess I was expecting to see more of a difference. Is it just me or do you guys see what you'd expect to see?

Same bull two years apart, that's pretty cool. From what I know about the Wasatch, there are a lot of bulls that just don't have the genetics to grow massive antlers. I've heard reports of many bulls being taken at the age of 6-8 years and only scoring around 320 pts. This particular bull in the picture just might not get much bigger.
I believe certain areas tend to hold bigger bulls as a genral rule of thumb due to the genetics in that area. The problem is those bigger bulls become the primary target of hunters, which is only natural, so over the course of several years those big bulls get removed from the gene pool and the smaller bulls with inferior genes now become the primary breeders. This is a problem that I believe will drive the quality of utahs herds down. Its a problem that will take years to recover from assuming steps were taken to do so.

Cool pics. Your big 6 may be in trouble if I run into him in September. If my boy is with me he is toast.

Thanks for sharing. Nice pictures and nice spot you have. Same question, what bushnell camera are you using, it does a nice job!!!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-12-11 AT 08:47AM (MST)[p]There are two bulls there that probably should be shot on the wasatch.....

the best bull in the bunch is the third pic down, that one has some serious potential.....

I agree, that's that bull has the best potential in the group. We'd be in heaven if he grew 8+ inches on each side this year, but that's probably asking too much. We'll see how he looks in the next few weeks.

So i'm using one last years models of the Bushnell trophy cam. There's nothing different between the models besides the color of the case, and weather or not there's a color LCD viewer. This year they have a black LED in addition to the typical red LED option, but as far as picture quality they're all about the same. Last years model shot 8mp pictures as well as all they're new models. But just so you know, I have the last years model of the B&W Text LCD - Camo Case Trophy Cam.
