Idaho Unit 64/67 Late

I drew a tag for this hunt during the second drawing this year. I've spent a lot of time in the unit in the fall, but never in November. My hunt is close to half over and I've had an extremely difficult time locating many bucks. They seem to have moved out of the high country, but I'm not seeing them on their wintering grounds either. Everything in between is so thick with pines that it's difficult to do any glassing. Is there anyone who is familiar with this country willing to give me any tips or advice? At this point I would appreciate anything. Thanks.

Res or Non-res? How much time do you have to spend? Try some of these places, the bucks may still be high, but will move closer to the river breaks:
Burns, Little Burns, Blacks from the river side.
Fleming Canyon at the back, saddle over into Dry.
Up Hinckley, behind Kelly's, and hunt around the top of Hell Hole.

I have hunted the late hunt twice. I can give you some good info if you want to call me. Last year I spent a week on the unit.
Your best hunting is still ahead, be patient.

I have scouted this unit hard the last 4 years and drew the tag last year. Until the snow piles up high, it will be slim pickings on the bucks. The suggested areas are great places to start. They are in the transitional ranges right now....thick timber areas which are close to impossible to find bucks. Be patient. THe best bucks I have seen are the last week and unfortunately the week after the hunt ends. There is a storm rolling into the area tonight/tomorrow that should put some snow down.
I too have been watching this area this year. Nothing yet. Not even does. Send me your number and I will call you and advise you of what I am seeing.

PM,
How did you end up doing on this hunt? We did get into some bucks on the late Utah Hunt. My brother in law shot a decent 4 point.

Look forward to hearing the results.

hey bowhunt, have you had that tag before or did you hunt general season? I shot a small 4 point. Not what i was really looking for but still a nice deer.

The hunt ended up being quite a bit tougher than I thought it was going to be. None of the big boys ever showed up in the areas I was watching. I'm sure that part of the problem was the lack of snow this year. I ended up talking myself into taking a small four point after walking away from him twice. He's definitely not what I was really hoping for, but he is a beautiful buck. In the end I'm happy with the results. I appreciate all of the help that was offered to me for this hunt.

Mike,
I'm glad you guys were able to get into them in Utah. I'm curious if you tried any of the areas I talked to you about? Once again, I appreciate all the help you offered, and I look forward to returning the favor.

Double throat patch! That is cool. Very typical of bucks on unit 67. He is beautiful.
Looks like a good deer to me. Congrats. Give me a call some time and let's chat. We did hunt one of the areas you suggested. Thanks! for the help.

NIce buck...even though you hoped for better. Looks like a typical buck you would expect on that hunt, without a major snow event. He is exactly the type that I have seen the last 2 weekends......except for yesterday. I found a true 30" 4x4 yesterday about 3:00 doggin a single doe. I had this hunt last year and I also found the really "BIG" bucks a couple days after the hunt ended. I guess that is why they call it hunting.
Congrats on the buck.....he will make a great mount. Keep in touch as I will continue to scout this unit to see what shows up in the next 2 or so weeks.
