Purchase Mont. Combo Point

LAST EDITED ON Jul-19-11 AT 08:16AM (MST)[p]Seems to me it would be a waste of $50 on the elk combo tag.

They had leftover tags as it was and next year there is another new law that allows native Montanan's to buy elk and deer tags over the counter for 4 times the price of a resident if they have immediate family members still living in the state. That will reduce the demand for the combo tags even further.

It might be worth the $50 for deer though if you want to guarantee a tag.

Seems like the whole thought process around the taking the guaranteed tags away from the outfitters so they couldn't lease up a bunch of land with the guaranteed tags has pretty much been a fiasco.

Essentially the folks that were buying the guaranteed outfitter tags for $1,200 and $1,000 are now getting them for $900 and $550 and are still guaranteed a tag. The DIY type nonresidents that were paying $640 and $350 and drawing have either dropped out due to the price increase or are now getting guaranteed tags so they may start leasing up some land if they can afford the higher price tags.

Seems to be the pattern going right now in many of the western states, screw the nonresident DIY type hunter because they have the quietest voice.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now.
