You better keep your heads down fellas, there are still a bunch of permit boys out there that would love to put you in the freezer. The first buck was gigantic body wise and had a gorgeous cape on him. I'm glad a few made it to spread their genes.

Awesome Pics Doug....thanks. I'd take anyone of them bad boys! I will have to settle for a couple whiteys though...hopefully Idaho will produce a good one for me this week.

Good luck! Your timing will be about perfect. The whities are just starting to get fired up. I'm hoping to get a couple of them on film soon. They should be rattling in pretty good in about 3 days. The mulies are full bore. I wish the weather would settle. Up high its blizzard, down low its mud. Then its bluebird skies. Good light, but a little harder to catch em'.

Nice pics bone, are those methow bucks. You heading up northeast this weekend for pics for whities. Let me know, i need to still fill a tag.

Colville bucks. I'm probably headed for Twisp for a day or two then hoping to get up there. I think the season will be over by then though. I'm down here on kid duty until Friday(Daisys Birthday is Thursday). I have an open invitation to Orofino that I am seriously thinking about. I just don't have the cash, but there is always credit. I'll get in touch with you if plans change

LAST EDITED ON Nov-14-06 AT 11:25AM (MST)[p]Sounds good, i was going to go to black diamond buy my cousin wont be there cause he has an interview. I may try packwood if anybody can give me some tips or maybe not, that pass is kinda snotty right now.

Nice pics bone!! Still amazes me how some of them bucks make it through the seasons. Great to see though! Good luck with the Whitey pics.

I was in the Packwood/Randle area Wednesday - Friday elk hunting, It will be hit or miss if that area will be under water "again" after this front blows through. Wednesday hwy 12 was under water. So we drove down to Woodland and back East to Mt Adams. Friday hwy 12 was clear, both Rd 23 and Rd 21 had closed signs on them, but Rd 23 (Randle) was passable. We were trying to cross over to the SW side of Mt Adams, but Rd 23 was in Blizzard conditions within 10 miles of the summit had to turn back towards Randle. Most of the critters were holding tight between fronts.

Do you know how far down white pass you have to be before you can start hunting blacktails. Looks like theres some good forest service roads when you get down the pass aways.

You will have to be on the West side of the Pacific Crest Trail to be hunting blacktails (like the deer can read, LOL). The PCT is the dividing line between Eastside Mule deer and Westside Blacktail. The area we were hunting by Mt. Adams it is really hard to tell wich side of the trail your are on. If you are on HWY 12 (white pass) the White Pass sky lift is on the trail, so is White Pass Lake. Stay West of the PCT and you will be fine.

I've done quite a bit of hunting out of Randle, and there are some sweet country with some big Blackies around. We would stay right below the snow line and find them does cause them bucks will be close.

Just looked at the atlas last night, you can pretty much start hunting as soon as you cross over whitepass which is the crest trail, on both sides of the road. Might just drive down aways and find a forrest service road and go hunt.

We saw a number of bucks last weekend, one was a huge 3x3 that looked like he was pumped up on steroids, all rutted up. If you are coming from the east side, be sure to bring good gortex. And plan on getting wet, LOL.
It has been raining/snowing for a week. The weather tonight is going to bring warm rain that cases havoc with the new snow. The flooding is on the west side by Randle and Packwood (near any of the rivers)
Good luck

Ya i probably wont go all way down to packwood, will stay up higher if theres not to much snow. I seen some forrest roads driving to packwood this summer so will probably try those out.

Good luck Kirk, kid duty is almost over and I think I am going to get clearance for the Valley this weekend. I'm hoping to find some nice bucks with this new snow.

That ought to get them moving. I'm sort of glad I didn't have that permit burning a hole in my pocket.
