Kern River G-6 hunt

I lived in the area, know the area real well. I was there on Sunday mt. quail. Jump one small buck, seen alot of does. My buddy son has the tag, so I will be up there. Need weather, none in the forecast just yet. I was in a tee shirt hunting quail. The big bucks will be holding tight, still up high. Sherman pass area is were we hunt. Mike

don't worry about snow the bucks are down already looking for love. Just be patience and glass the burnt hillsides real good. Bucks are in rut right now and will be for the first part of december.

I'd try the yellowjacket area (east of Riverkern),also if the weather is right,Ant canyon is a great area.If you hunt Ant canyon, you'll have to cross the river, but it should be low and not much of a problem.Good luck and keep us posted on your hunt

Was up there today, didn't see anything worth pulling the trigger on.It was dry and warm, hope things change by next weekend.

If you are after the big bucks, you better go high, they aren't down low. If you after a decent buck, you might catch one down low. There is no reason for the big bucks to move just yet, no weather. Seeing alot of does, seem over 25 today, couple of forked horns, & one 3x2, so that ought to tell you something. My son had the tag twice. He missed two bucks over thirty. Two years ago he missed one we guessed him at 34 he was a non typical. He had so many points I couldn't count, once in a lifetime, he was sick, I was sick, the two other guys with us was sick, but what a site. We were on the Sherman pass rd @ 8000ft, on the road driving when we saw him. He missed twice at 150 yds. There was about one ft. of snow. The weather in G-6 really hasn't been cold. i will up there, helping a young guy on his hunt, we will be hunting up high on sherman pass rd. they pass through there. I have seem big deer in the posion meadow also, when there is snow. If we had super cold nights, days in a row, you could down lower. Thats what I would do. Everbody is different in the way they hunt. nobody has given you wrong advice. If you go to yelloejacket & hunt in the back, you might want to be in good shape. Ant canyon. across the river, is a sleeper, good hold some good bucks if they get pushed down in there. If you like mt. quail take a shot gun lot of birds this year.Mike
