I was one of the lucky ones to draw this amazing tag. Was wondering if anyone would like to share any tips or suggestions?

I appreciate the jester. I knew I was going out on a limb putting myself out here. I've pursued bear down there, I know the area. I was just looking to see if anyone had any tips or suggestions that they would be willing to share.

Congrats on a great tag. I had the tag in '09. It was an amazing experience. I would have a couple of words of advice.
1- Don't get overwhelmed by the tag and remember to enjoy your hunt. The pressure to take a "monster" can ruin what will be one of the neatest hunting experiences of your life.

2. Don't worry about finding too many bulls now. They are hard to find down there this time of year and will come out of the woodwork once the rut starts. Never seen a rut like the rut on the San Juan. Just make sure you know the roads and the area and spend some time just before your hunt locating what the rifle guys have left and what they are chasing....they are a great resourse so make sure you talk to them while your are scouting the last few days of there hunt.

3. Take lots of pictures. A friend did for my hunt and I still love flipping through them.

4. Don't shoot the first big bull you see.(unless he is a monster) Take the opportunity to hunt....it's utah and it will be a while before you get to again, and probably won't get to hunt the san Juan ever again.

Send me a PM if you get a chance and we can chat.

Good luck. Steepanddeep drew the tag as well. You might want to touch base with him.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm really excited and nervous at the same time. Carbonation, my husband has told me the exact same thing. But its good to hear it from someone else. What type of bull did you take in 09? How many days did you hunt? And how far was the shot? Thanks again

If the link doesn't work just search for that title in the elk section. Good luck. He was about 40 yards in the thick timber. I would use 3 pellets of pyrodex with a bullet around 300 grains and be comfortable out to about 200 yards....I don't feel comfortable beyond that, but we had plenty of bulls in that range....some closer.

Hey lucky2draw I was just being a smart ass. Didn't mean it in a rude way. If I knew anything about the san juan I would help you out all I could. I hope you get a monster bull this year hope to see the pics on here when you do. Best of luck to you.

Carbonnation thanks for everything, the pictures and journal you kept is awesome. I'm just a little bit more nervous than before, but knowing with hard work and determination I myself will have a hunt of a lifetime. Aaron84 I didn't expect any less than your first comment. Thanks again for everyone's suggestions
