Seven years ago I took the neighbor kid under my wing, teaching him how to shoot and taking him on hunting trips with me. He like many kids, doesn't have a father whom gave a s*#t about him. Well 7 years later, hunting license in pocket, a .243 in hand, and a long weekend he got his first deer.

Way to go Dan takes a special kind of person to take the time to help somebody not as fortunate. Good on you and congrats to the young man.

Any parent that doesn't give a *&^%^% should be beaten within an inch of their life. Good for Tanner.

Man, I love stories like this. I'll never forget the expression on my dad's face when I shot my first deer - that guy doesn't know what he's missing. Thanks for making a difference in this boy's life.

Congrat's to Tanner on his first deer. Love the happy smiles of success, he'll be hooked for life. And, congrat's to you Dan for being a standup guy. By taking, him under your wing, you've done something that will change Tanner's life for the better. Scott

Way to go!! Gotta feel a little proud yourself....congrats to the kid on his first, of I'm sure many Muleys.

That is something to be proud of! Way to go Tanner! I can't wait to be able to teach my kids about hunting and wildlife and take them into the outdoors. That really is what it is all about.

Thanks guys, I will direct "Tan-Man" to this site so he can enjoy the comments. By the way, he made an awesome 222 yard shot. After trying to get set up on about 4 different other does, I kept telling him "You gotta get to a rest and get her in the scope quicker buddy", after about the 3rd doe, I could see the dejected look in his face. On the 5th and final doe in the photo, I said "get to that rock" which he promptly did, I said "are you on her?", repeated it a second time "Tan, are you on her?", I just started saying it the third time and BOOM the gun went off, I looked up in time to see her rolling down the hill. Well, we looked at each other and started yelling and jumping up and down, hugged each other, etc. It was a great moment we will both remember forever.

I was fortunate to have Tanner as one of my hunter education students. This is what it's all about. Congratulations Hunter - I knew you had it in you,

Scott.
