Do you see a buck in this photo? Is he any good?

"Roadless areas, in general, represent some of the best fish and wildlife habitat on public lands. The bad news is that there is nothing positive about a road where fish and wildlife habitat are concerned -- absolutely nothing." (B&C Professor, Jack Ward Thomas, Fair Chase, Fall 2005, p.10).

That is a super pic. I love the fact that the buck is not in focus. There is enough to know he's a good one. Really nice. I always enjoy your work. Keep it up!

Tony, what kind of setup do you have (camera, lens's, trypod) and about how much dose a good setup cost. I am interested in wildlife photography and my little 5 megapixle digital camera dosent do a very good job. oviously.

Also your stuff is very cool, I really like the top pic.

Hey jake, thanks for looking and for the compliments. If you dont mind, you should head over to the photo forum and just review my posts, some are from way back, but if you do a search for nikon or just review some of the older posts you'll find a lot of answeres.

I spend a TON of money on my equipment.

You can buy a good, new set up that will take quality photos, for about $2k. You can spend a little less, but I'd say you need a dslr, and a quality lens.

I shoot nikon. . .

Yep. I have to echo some of the guys. I too always enjoy your photos. Do you sell any to magazines?

LAST EDITED ON Nov-21-06 AT 11:27AM (MST)[p]I've never sold any deer photos to any magazines. Lots of people think I'm a pro, and I guess I am to some extent. I do sell prints of muledeer and I do publish a lot of other material, just not mule deer and very little wildlife in general. I just love being out and photographing wildlife year around, it's like hunting all year only I dont have to pack the meat.

I do some freelance and some contract work but mostly I sell to people who know me, or who have heard of my work through word of mouth. I dont advertise and I dont market.

The magazine market for mule deer is very saturated with lots of great photographs and photographers. I also dont live in an area that has a good number of awesome bucks, like they have in colorado and utah. In addition, most successful photographers are far better marketers than I and almost none can compete with my loud mouth and sometimes out of the mainstream political views.

I'm not proud of that, but my mouth does get in the way. Lets just say that I'm not very well liked by people who print/use mule deer photos. . . and I wont sell to some anyhow. To make matters worse, I dont follow the rules or fit the right mold and hate to follow the herds . . .

Thanks for your kind words!

Here's something you might like. . .
