Most every cow is talking and a lot of the cows will bugles big bulls are starting to get ornery and rubbing but won't make noise tell the rut, a wise man once told me that.

Smoke pole 2011 ;)

Good Gawd, please wait at least til the opener to bust out those EFFING hoochie mamas and primos whatever bugles! Utards!
Holy sh!t, please learn to hunt elk without them screaming at you from your truck! Sorry for the rant. This subject gets me fired up!

Hey horse, you wake up on the wrong side of the bed? And who said anything bout a hoochi or a truck? Sorry for the rant but stupid posts like yours fire me up! Not really but it really was.... Stupid!

I find the elk seem to talk "bugle","cow call" year round. It only increases around the rut which is several weeks away in September

I was making the point that waaay to many people rely and depend on the elk talkin. They also are the guys calling all summer long educating the elk. As for the hoochie...that's all I seem to see the summer pro callers using. So yea, it does fire me up. You ever show any emotion? Go hunt the South Slope during the archery hunt. It's real quiet!

Traditional >>>------->

Well that may be true but why take it out on a guy asking a simple question that said nothing about him calling this early? I agree alot call too early. I hunt the south slope on archery and had good luck calling bulls, but I haven't ran into anyone else to screw it up once I leave the road.

You think the south slope is bad you should see what goes down on the front. I've seen guys let out a bugle and another tard responds. The next thing you know there pointing arrows at each other. Lol happens almost every year up there. I don't even bother with a call any more.

have you not been taught how to use a hoochie mama yet, all you have to do is give it a push and you hear that distinct sliding note of a cow call. oh ya and it gives you three different options of sound too just got to twist it a little, i know how to use many different calls mouth, bugles, diaphram, whatever and have had just as good of luck calling bulls in with a hoochie mama, not that it is my call of joice but it works sometimes, if your hunting the south slope and its really quiet sounds like you might be the one who needs to work on your calling skills, maybe you should upgrade to the hoochie mama because it is idiot proof!!! i also hate early callers who go out and educate the elk i have not been out calling yet for this reason nor do i plan on doing any calling for the first couple of weeks, i sit water holes and game trials and listen to see if any action is happening, one year i saw and heard a guy from 150 yards away bugle from his atv, so i let out a bugle right from the truck trail, he came flying over to ask if i heard a bugle told him yes it came from the bottom of the canyon, so he continued to call from his atv like an idiot, what do you have against primos calls, just mad that they are successful at what they do? what call do you prefer Mr elk caller dude

and horse what do you use for your secret weapon instead of calling in a rutting animal, i think most people always use spot and stalk as an option, or sit on water, or tree stand, or game trails and blinds, or still hunting the timbers, or maybe you have the luxury of hunting high fence areas where the elk run to grain buckets, but there is nothing better than talking to a wild animal and tricking him into coming right into your lap, it only adds to the thrill of hunting, i love pros like you who think you have never educated a bull by calling to him its only all the other guys fault cause they dont know how to call, i agree that lots of hunters get way to carried away with the calling so that it doesnt even sound realistic, but come on you dont have to act like your ##### dont stink,

and horse im sure by me posted this it reminded everyone that archery season is almost here so they better get out and start bugling to see what is happeneing, im sure if they are that way reading this subject doesnt matter cause they probably have been out already, but i guess i will take the blame if you start to see more eager hunters blowing there bugles this week since they have read this post

Leadhead, did I ever call you out? Relax. I only said I can't stand all the summer educaters out there. No secret hunting style here. Every year you hear the LE tag holders complain that the elk weren't talking so they can't find em. You gotta adapt to what they are or aren't doing. Yea, I'm sure I've educated some elk in my days, just not a month early. I'm sorrying i jumped your case and made assumptions.
The reason I don't like hoochie mamas is becuz they are so simple. Every yard can do them and they tend to over due them. Don't like the primos bugles becuz I think they sound like sh!t. That's all. I will call hornkiller out though. You hiding from my bet? You scared to put your money where your mouth is?

Traditional >>>------->

Wow!! What a joke..Same ole story I guess. A guy starts a simple honest thread and there always has to be a douche bag or two filled with arogance. Makes you wonder what their really like behind that screen.

Where I'm at the bigger bulls are starting to rub. Saw couple rags with some cows last friday night. As mentioned they talk all year but will be September before they get fired up. Good luck to you guys who know what its really all about.

LMAO im not going to ruin my hunt trying to kill a 330 bull to make a $100 off you! Ive killed enuf branched bulls that i would rather kill a little freak bull than a 260-290 bull so no im not giong to bet ya. If i do kill that 330 bull i sure will take you up on that steak dinner you spoke of!

kateraxl are you horsecreek's little puppy that folloows him around and gets his little poke in after a man speaks up? Or is he paying you to do that? Iether way you need to go back to tines up or get a life!

Easy there little guy! I wasn't callin on you. I was just saying if he hates hypocrites he probably hates liars! But **** someone is a little defensive!

leadhead,

thanks for the post and ?, you know there are a lot of great memebers on this sight, but as you know there are a lot of dushbags that have to come up with some kind of smartass remark. In years past that people would ask this question toward the middle and end of august people would reply "herd a couple up on the Manti" or "I herd one bugle camping with the family". And it helps get the excitement of what we are passion about.

I'll tell you that I haven't herd any bugling yet. 2 saturdays ago i saw 3 bulls on the wasatch together w/ velvet on, no bugles, i live in logan, ut and went up on the mountain on saturday and didn't hear anything. But usuall up by the strawberry area on the wasatch, we hear bugling on the opening weekend of the archery deer hunt.

Good luck to you! Can't wait till the bulls start bugling!

I remember you calling me a liar on the elk i have killed so dont act like you wasent calling me out!

You call me little guy so you must be a fat guy huh?

Is your self esteem that low? Get over yourself bud. If I recall right I've never once said hey hornkiller your a liar? So simmer down a notch the world doesn't revolve around you. I don't know you from Adam so give it a break and try not to have so much hostility lifes to short lol. :)

this sight is quite entertaining to say the least, im sitting in the break room at work laughing my ass off and people keep wondering what my problem is i just say its crazy grown up kids bickering, gotta love it, well lets hope the full moon dies down and the nights get colder and maybe a cold front or two or we might be hunting a pretty silent archery season, best of luck to you all hone in your calling skills and be ready you never know when mr big will jump up out of his hole, safe hunting cant wait to start hearing and seeing pic's of some bulls on the ground

Hey boys. I was watching a group of bulls last week and they were all talking. They weren't really aggressive but they were letting each other know that they were there. I suspect they will be off and on until one smells a ripe cow and then it will be game on from there!

It's always an adventure!!!
