I am sure some areas are diferant but I have been ontop of amountain at daylight watching bucks feed and a quad six miles away will shine there lights up the canyon and the deer will move over a canyon.

I'VE HAD AT LEAST 50 BUCKS STAND AND WATCH ME ON MY QUAD BETWEEN 25-60 YARDS DURING THE SEASON. SOME WATCH, SOME WALK.......THE QUAD HAS A STRANGE EFFECT ON MULEDEER. YES, THEY WERE RUTTING. YD.

From my experience, the more traffic in an area, big bucks will have two options: Get out of the country or two (which I think is more typical) they will not move until you either physical step on them or make eye contact. The last two mature deer I have harvested were in an area I least would've expected, bedded in the thickest crap imaginable and never moved until I shot them because they figured noone could see them. One was 200 yds from a public road and we had just backpacked 6 miles for three days and were calling the trip quits when I lucked out and spotted him. Big deer are smart and I've been shocked at how they hunker down until they have to bust. Just my two cents.

Oh yeah, if they are rutting, it seems that all predictability and consistency goes out the window. They don't amke sense during the rut!
