LAST EDITED ON Nov-29-06 AT 02:34PM (MST)[p]I just ordered his book "Public Land Mulies, The Bottom Line". Has anyone read it or watched the DVD? Would like to hear a review.

Good read and probably worth the money, although there is a lot of stuff that has been rehashed over. I'd say it has enough info and cool pics to make it worth the money. I admire anyone who can kill as many big bucks on public land as this guy. He is very dedicated hunter.

I'm moving from big whiteys in North Idaho to big mulies here in Montana since I've finally finished school. I plan to check this book out. Was also looking into Darver's "How to Find Giant Bucks", and can't find it under $100. Why so expensive?

The guys name is Kirt Darner.Hopefully this doesnt start a 500 reply #itch session.
But his book is the best Muley book ever written.May not be all true but worth having.Hard to find book, worth every cent...

Good book, definately worth the money. The guy is smart and is a straight shooter, something that cannot be said of Mike Eastman and Kirt Darner, respectively.

I have both books and both are good to have in your hunting library. IMO, the best part of Longs book is the glassing techniques he uses. I've incorporated some of this into my hunting.

Overall the book is worth having, especially if you are new to Mule Deer hunting. Their are good tips that anyone could apply to hunting and break downs of the top Mule Deer states for trophies. David definetly has a passion/obsession for Mule Deer that not many will ever experience.
I had the fortunate chance of running into Mr. Long on top of a mountain in Wy. in 05 and he is a real down to earth guy, on top of being in top phyisical shape. (I was on a horse, he on foot at 10,000 ft. elavation-impressive to say the least!)
Of course everyone has an opinion and this is mine.
Enjoy!

If you run into David Long while out hunting, you know you are in the right area!

ken,

i thought it was ok, it got me through some long days in the antelope blind this year. good thing im a slow reader! like some said, a lot was rehashed. good read tho i thought. travis.

spitz,

I see there are 3 of Darner's books (used) on one site for $66 plus shipping. They are on there up to $300. Lots of coin. I wonder why they don't just publish some more. Seems to be significant demand.

I agree with old_man_of_the_hills on that Eastmen thing we got one of his movies of Netflix and the highlight of the video was two bucks locked up almost kicked Mike in the face. Needless to say it was the lamest thing ever recorded in the history of mankind.

He could probably use that extra money now since he is in trouble again from earlier posts this year.
Go to the "search tab" above and type in Kirk Darner and see what comes up.

Real good book, especially for Wyoming hunting. Plus, Dave Long IS the man. He hunts long and hard, eats power bars & freeze dried stuff, and kills big deer.
I can handle the hunting long and hard, but I can't live on power bars and freeze dried food. Bacon and Eggs for me please!!!
hmmmm. Maybe that's why I didn't kill a monster this year.??

PS - You've got get Darner's book if you don't have it. Regardless what he's done, the book is excellent. He knew how to hunt deer long before anyone else.

I really enjoyed DL's book and DVD.

My Mrs does alot of backpacking and really enjoyed his backpack suggestions.

I've got all of KD's books, even one in the gold and leather... I read them every winter season just for the knowledge he shares.

I really enjoyed his book and the dvd is good also I liked his glassing methods and I learned a little about backpacking into areas more effectively. I borrowed my brother the book and he carried my backpack up the mountain what a brother.

Knowledge is knowledge as long as it works. I still can not figure out how or why someone thinks they are better than anyone else. Oppurtunity and having the time and means to hunt hard is where it all comes from. Also areas you hunt have tons to do with it. I have yet to meet someone that told me they figured out how to hunt all on there own. Listening to and hearing hunting stories is how someone gets to learn strategies on what to do. Putting these things together is how everyone has learned. Taking in and using far fetched or exagerated stories on hunts just brings that much more to learning. These are what makes the thrill of the hunt that much more exciting. The delusion of grandeur of thinking oneself is better than anyone else will be ones downfall of learning.
I read everything and all and will pick up this book everyone is talking about. I am sure it will be a great book.

Thats why I'd like to hear you tell some stories Jerry! It is a fact that you are one of the most capable big buck killers around...period! When you speak....I'll listen!

I need to pick up David's book too.

Good post supersider! I read everything also. You can always pick up something from everything you read. David's book was enjoyable for me. Well worth the money.

Davids, DVDS Magnum mulies are very good as well. I think they portray the real deal on public land. I watched one last night and than watched one of Mossbacks and I had to laugh in disgust at Doyles DVD's. All guided hunts on premium units, and then there was the tribute to Raddon family and all the big bucks they've killed. Come on! They killed all those big bucks on the paunsaguant because they can afford to hunt it every year. Nothing against the Raddons. I'm sure they are nice people, but anyone that is a decent hunter can kill big bucks if they are hunting the paunsaguant with a muzzy during the rut.If you are going make a tribute, make it to all the average guys that kill big bucks on a over the counter public land tag.

Sorry for the rant
Mike
