I wasn't going to post this, but I couldn't pass on the opportunity to thank NvrEnuf publicly... I haven't ever been on such a fun hunt, we had more fun and laughed more than I ever have in the hills..I got video of a larger buck two days before, but didn't pull the trigger. When I saw this guy, I couldn't pass again. Thanks again Shawn, I can't thank you enough and I want you to know that this was the only circumstance that I feel it is o.k. to pick a guy up and give him a bear hug!!!(oh yea, I DID have orange,, just took it off for the photos..)

Congrats. Man that is a stud buck! Shawn said he was a dandy. But you know, they're two sheds that you can't pick-up...:7 Good job. You boys hunted hard and you deserve to get that deer.

'It's all about the gut pile'

Honestly, I could look at that photo all day. That is one bad A looking buck. I like the way you have the buck sitting on the ground with the ears low.. . . Just looks good. NICE BUCK!

A really nice buck for sure!

I am near drawing that tag now, but never have been there yet.

Based on what I have researched, I think that might be one of the above average quality deer out there.

Can anyone verify for me where this buck stands in relation to quality out there on the Book Cliffs- whether this is an above average or super great buck....just trying to get a better grasp as to what to expect..........quality-wise.

Congrats again, that is one beautiful buck...........

Mark

Thanks a bunch for the comments. I couldn't wipe the grin off my face for the rest of the day!!

You're right Sneak, that's why I let the bigger guy go so I can go pick up HIS sheds!! LOL

You don't need to thank me for anything Ronnie. He11 the pleasure was all mine. Well except for when you shot your buck and started jumping around and bear hugged me of course. I thought for a second I was getting raped! :) Seriously though, what a great hunt. I had a blast hunting with you and I can't wait until next time. I understand you're coming down near Christmas. We'll have to get together for a day and go check out some bucks while you're home.

Your pictures really did turn out awesome man! What a great buck!!!

Beautiful buck. Beautiful picture. You sound like you had a great time. And way to head off the ethics police with the orange explanation. That'll shut em up.

That photo is absolutely TOP NOTCH! That is a beauty of a buck too...about what the Cliffs has to offer from what I understand! Congratulations!

One of the most amazing things about Ronnie's hunt, in my opinion is that he was able to do something VERY unselfish. Something that most people wouldn't have even dreamed of. Because of school and a very long drive (16 hours I think?) he decided it would be best to come later in the hunt and actually pulled in late on day 5 of our 9 day hunt. On his way in to meet me at camp he spotted a VERY nice buck from the road. I'm not talking a nice 24" 4pt either. I'm talking a BIG buck!!! He quickly grabbed his gun, camcorder and tripod and ran up a couple of ridges and finally ended up right on top of the buck! He set up the camcorder and as the buck is standing only 80yds away he starts rolling video. There he is, gun in hand video rolling on the unsuspecting buck and as I understand it there are a couple of things going through his mind at this point. He told himself he wouldn't shoot the first buck he saw and this just happened to be the first buck. He also wanted to hunt with his good buddy NvrEnuf and if he shot this buck by himself he couldn't get all excited and bear hug me and all that stuff. :) That along with a couple of other things going through his mind was enough to keep him from laying the hammer down on the buck. When Ronnie pulled into camp he mentioned that he'd seen a good buck and had a chance to take him but passed him up. He also mentioned that he had video footage of the buck. I basically said "cool" and started helping him unload his things from the truck. I had also seen a few "good" bucks during the week and figured we'd be seeing plenty more during the next few days. As we were settling in and putting his things away I pulled out a nice set of sheds that I'd found during another hunt a couple of weeks earlier and I showed them to him. He asked me what I thought the set would score and I told him I had pulled a tape on them and figured they'd go around 190 with a 24 inch inside spread. Just then Ron?s face went pale and he said, "I think I messed up by passing that buck earlier..." I asked why, wondering what in the world could have possibly happened that could be so bad. After Ron pulled out the video footage of the buck he had just passed on I knew exactly what he meant and why his face went pale. I'm positive my face did the same thing... Needless to say we spent the next couple of days trying to find the big ol? bugger and laughing about how things turn out sometimes. At one point Ron told me that he had to let the big ones go so he could shoot a small one. :) I'm just glad he was able to find and hammer another great buck or it would really sting us both each time we thought about the other buck.

I'm telling you guys the buck Ron passed up is a dandy! One that nearly anyone would shoot on the Book Cliffs and probably anywhere for that matter.

Ron, as much as I'd like to have seen you end up with that buck I'm still glad you held off the trigger so we could hit it hard and hunt together for a few days. I'll never forget the hunt and I appreciate you being so unselfish. I honestly can't wait until next time. Hey, do you think you could capture an image of the buck you passed on with your camcorder and then post it up for these fellers to see?

Ronnie,

Congrats on a great buck. That is a great photo and a great deer. I hope things are going well for you. I haven't spoken to you since I ran into you a couple of years ago in Jackson Hole. I will send you a private message with my email so we can keep in contact.

Later,

Leo

With Finals here, I didn't have time to edit and get a good photo, so I took a pic off the screen!! It's a fairly decent picture of him though and gives you a good idea of his size.. He's not as willow-horned as he looks in this pic, and he had a kicker off his G-2 that busted about 3 inches out. Hey NvrEnuf, If you can get out there and find him, please tie him up until he sheds,, I'd sure appreciate it!!

Uhhh.... Can you say G4's? I don't even hardly dare guess on the buck's width. Ronnie and I were thinking somewhere around 33ish maybe? What do you guys think?

You're right Ron, this shot makes him look willow horned and he actually has good mass. Not super heavy but good mass.

Hey Shawn,

I heard you killed a really good deer. Is the rumor true?

How did you do in Wyoming this year?

Wow....what can I say that hasn't already been said about your buck and that picture. Offer my congrats I guess! Sweet! You got some knads passin' that bad oscar up, more than me I'm sure. :)

Ya NvrEnuf....did you shoot another good buck this year on "our" B-Day or what?

You know what's funny Muleyslyr. I'd been out hunting for basically 14 days straight the day that Ronnie shot his buck. Started in WY and then headed straight to UT. While Ron and I were standing there over his dead buck he pulls out his tag and starts to notch it. He asked me, "what day is it anyway?". I told him I wasn't sure. I said, "I think it's the 26th." He said, "oh yeah, it's actually the 27th." It wasn't until then that I realized it was my birthday. :) What a great b-day present! Sharing an awesome hunt with a good buddy and watching him slam a great buck! That's about as good as it gets really...

As far as my season goes I definitely can't complain. I had a blast and hunted more this year than I ever have in one season. I even lucked out and took a couple of nice bucks. I honestly can't wait until next year. It's killing me already!

Passing that buck up to spend time with Shawn....:)

Now that's priceless! HAHAHAHA

Congrats to the both of you on your Book Cliffs success.

Great pic too!

wideone,
Congrats on the buck, I think its really cool you at least have video of the one you passed on. Congrats,

Shawn,
That set of sheds you showed wideone, did you find those in WY? If you did you gotta send me pics man!! Also send me a pic of your buck if you have time, still haven't seen it.

Ernesto

wideone,
The video shot indicates that you let your namesake go! But at least you have the video and the really nice buck you took anyway! Congratulations. Great pic(s)
You can share my campfire anytime!

Why I asked how wide he is because I got one 26" wide also this year. My deer looks about the same as yours but not as heavy as yours. Mine is on page 10 nebo's buck.

Great story and pictures, It's good you left that Big one for seed Hope I draw next year LOL.

Ronnie,

Congrats on a great buck how did the rest of your summer go, hows the knee?
