This is a NV buck I took on 12-2-06. I shot him at 135 yards standing in the skyline right before sunset. It was a awsome sight to see him standing there looking at me. I was down hill of him in the late shadows and he was in the last bit of sun on the mountain. He had 4 does with him and the probbly cost him his life. I had scouted this unit for 3 days and really only saw a couple of dink bucks and very few deer. The best part about the whole hunt is i had my dad with me the whole time. We dont get to hunt together hardly any more because he goes on hunts that i just cant afford. If he does not draw a great tag he just buys a couple of land owner tags and goes.I myself have to draw a good tag or i stay at home. So it was awsome to have him as my own guide for a week. I look up to my dad like he is a legend to mule deer hunting in my eyes. He has taken a dozen bucks that break 30 inchs and many over 200 and he never will hire a guide. When i left for this hunt i told my budies that i was going to get a big buck because my ole man can find a good one in a 5 gallon bucket if he has to. Well he did not let me down one bit. He not only spotted it for me we went up on a ridge that i did not want to go on with are last bit of light. I had seen a small buck on the other ridge and i wanted to go over there and my ole man said i saw a big buck track going up that ridge so i think that is where we should go. Mind you the track was a couple days old. So i gave in and i am so glad i did. My dad spooted the does and i was looking in a different way at the time and all my ole man says is "shoot that son of a #####". I never even put the glasses on him. I just sat down put the muzz on the sticks and pulled the triger. He only went about 30 yards off the back side and died. It was a good thing as if he would of went 10 more yards we might of needed ropes to lower our yourselfs to him. My ole man gave me a big high five and i felt like i was 12 years old again siting on my first buck with my dad by my side. This is the widdest deer i have ever shot and to have the man with me ment the world. I am a hunting junky and love to see big heads and score them but i will probbly never score him and never put him in the book. I just dont care about that with this deer. I no he is not a monster but he is a dang good one to me. To top it off i shot hime with a sidelock muzz and bufflo style bullets. I love that gun its been good to me. Sorry for being long.

Aaron,
Nice buck!! I am thinking of putting in for Nev. next year. Do you mind saying what unit you got him in? Any recommendations of what unit to put in for with a rifle?

Great job, that's a nice looking buck. How wide did it go?

Thanks for posting your pic and story.

Nice buck and great story. My dad doesn't hunt but has gone on a couple with me. Pretty cool to have your old man as a mentor and guide.

Aaron,

Thanks for sharing your story with us, I really enjoyed reading it. It's good to see that you are excited to hunt with your dad.

Aaron congrats on the Nv deer.I'm glad this hunt worked out better for you than your Wyoming hunt. I felt bad after giving you that info and it not working out the way you wanted.O well you ended up with a really nice buck after all.

Awesome trophy and an even better story and memory. My dad is my hunting legend in my eyes too. This is the kind of hunting story I like.

Thank you guys for all the kind words. Its a nice change to have nice things said about a post. Here is one more pic from back down at the truck. He is really a 5x4 on his right side he has a 2 inch inline point. Just makes him all the better for me to look at. I think he was a very young buck. He had a very small body and his teeth were perfect. He might of been a smoker buck in a couple of years. As my ole man always says I would rather be lucky than good. For him I don't really think he needs any luck but sometimes I sure do.Ha Ha. NV is now my new favorite state until next years draws anyways.

Great buck Aaron. How would you compare Nevada to Wyoming? Were you on the Eastern Nevada muzzy hunt? fatrooster.

There is way more deer in WY than this part of NV. I was on the west side of NV. In 3 days of scouting i saw 7 bucks 5 of wich were forkenhorns. I did see a light wooded 26 inch 4x3 on opening morning that was a pretty good deer. What i found odd about the hunt was the dang deer were as high as you could get in Dec. I thought they would be down low for winter time but i was dead wrong. I do think i shot a very top end buck for the unit. I talked to a bow hunter on the last day of his season and he had hunted for 14 days and he said he never saw a buck over 26 inchs and maybe 2 deer in the 160s class. I got my deer on opening eve so i did not get to cover as much country as i wanted to. I still dont think i could have done any better even if i had. By the way the buck is just shy of 30 inchs no matter what tape i have used. LOL.

Thank you for the great story and photos. It sounds like you are a chip off the 'ol block!:)

Any late season tag in Nevada is special. You made the best of it. Congratulations!
