LAST EDITED ON Dec-05-06 AT 09:17AM (MST)[p]Are the CWMU areas as good as the limmited entry areas? I have 7 points for deer and am thinking about putting in for a CWMU this year instead of the limmited entry areas. Am I wasting my points???

Also for those of you that hunted a CWMU what was your experience and would you do it again?

That's a very good question and one that i am asking myself at this time as well.
Here's what i can give you, for what it's worth.
I work for an outfitter here in Utah and we operate on CWMU's. I'm not at liberty to say which ones, but they are good and all have trophy potential and quality right now. I have 11 deer points myself and could draw a good CWMU tag right now, but i want so desperately to return to hunt the the Henry's someday again, so i'm going to "hold out" for that tag. My brother in law had 7 deer points this year, drew a CWMU and killed a 192 typical, so take that for what it's worth. Most CWMU's have great animals on them, but also lease out to outfitters. Most CWMU operators give the public tag holders a certain date to "get in and get out", but you are basically getting the same chances as paying clients as getting your animal, and some do not allow scouting time.
I would highly recommend a good quality and reputable CWMU to anyone, but to find those, you have to do your homework. If i'm not mistaking, you can contact the previous years tag holders through the fish & game office and make a few calls.
Good luck!! SLAMDUNK

I have never personally hunted a CWMU, but I know there are lots of factors to consider, as mentioned above. There are good CWMUs and bad ones, and unless you know what you are doing, and have done your research, you could be throwing away your hard earned points.
