Nice bull for my cuz

My cousin has been hunting hard for 23 days and finally on the 24th day of his hunt he finally put one down. He finally had an opportunity at a nice bull and made the most of it Monday morning.

The first few weeks of the hunt were hot and slow. Most of the elk were in the trees before or at daylight. We saw a few good bulls and he put stalks on them with no success. Here is a few of the bulls he stalked.

My cousin got 100 yds for this bull before the wind swirled on him.

He got within 90 yds of this bull and ran out of cover and the bull wouldn't come any closer.

Here is a little video of the above bull.

My cousin really wanted this bull we just couldn't close the deal on him. We went back the next day to the same canyon and all we could find was a small 290 six point. We decided to see how close we could get to the bull and see if he would come into a call if we got close enough.

The small 6 point heard us cow calling and destroyed a juniper about 800 yds from us and wouldn't come any closer. He ended up bedding down right below the tree he destroyed. We used the thermals and gusting winds to our advantage and got on the ridge above the bull. We slowly closed the distance to about 75-100 yds from the bull. We gave him one little cow call and he came charging in.

The bull came within 8 yds of my cousin his girlfriend and myself. It was awsome he walked right passed us and stopped 10 yds behind us looking down the opposite ridge. After about a minute he knew something wasn't right and slowly walked down the other side of the ridge.

So after having more luck with bulls responding to calls my cousin was feeling a little better about the hunt and knew it wouldn't be long. Monday morning he and a few of his buddies from work went out and had some bulls glassed up at light.

My cousin worked his way up to the bull and it was bugling up a storm. The bull wouldn't come down off the ridge he was on so my cousin slowly worked his way to him. When he was within 100 yds he let out a cow call and the bull came in on a string. My cousin said he had his head down low to the ground and all he could see was its fronts and knew it was the bull they had spotted earlier. The bull came to 15 yds and was quartered towards him. My cousin hit him perfect and the rage broadhead ripped a huge hole in the side of the bull.

The bull ran a ways and fell next to a juniper on a steep hill. It was finally over and my cousin had a great bull to put on the wall. Even though my cousin doesn't care a lot about the score it is in the 330-340 range.

Congrats on a sweet bull buddy. I had a blast.

Sweet bull!!! Love the pics and video on the hoof. Doesn't get any better than that :)

Congrats,
Pete

Congrats! That's a great bull, and it sounds like he worked hardcore for it.

That's a nice bull for sure, I would say you are pretty close on that score. Looks like you saw some great bulls.

Thanks for the comments everyone. We did see some really nice bulls and I am sure he would love to shoot one of them, but with only 4 days left of the hunt it's hard to pass a bull like that.
