I picked up a cancellation hunt from Huntinfool with Golden Eagle Outfitters and got my first mule deer a couple weeks ago. I shot it on day 4. We passed some good bucks looking for the big bucks but couldn't find them. It was a fun hunt and we had 2 guides for each hunter as it was there last hunt and the guides wanted to be out having fun and hunting. On the two previous mule deer hunts I went on I passed some small bucks and came home with nothing. This buck went just over 170" with only 1.5" of deductions and is only 19" wide inside. I was very happy with it and it was a very fun and good hunt.

Congratulations on your first muley. heck of a way to start out. My first one had 7 inch spikes and I thought he was a trophy.

Wow, and you didn't see any big ones? He looks pretty good to me. Looks wider than 19" wide. Congrats.

Shooter any day with those deep forks. I have one that is only 20 wide but grosses 174. Width is not everything when it comes to score but visually it rules. I shoot based on what looks good, and your buck is a shooter.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-19-06 AT 12:29PM (MST)[p]Thanks everyone, I was already hooked from the first hunt in WY Unit G. I have been trying to figure out how, if, and where I can go next year. I have 4pts for CO., but I really have to do it myself as I tok out a small loan to be able to do this hunt! I will apply every where I can tell I run out of money and hope I draw a tag. Any good suggestions for CO with 4 pts that I can do my self? I am very happy with the deer an dit was a really fun hunt passing up a 28" wide 3pt with great mass and tall tines....it came in to 15 yards. A buck that was just short of 170" on day 2, but the guide called me off just as I was about to shoot. He said thats a great deer but I think we can find better and at least that later in the week, lets just not shoot that on day 2. That went with what I wanted him to tell me and I just said good lets go find a bigger one. Like I said we saw a bunch of good bucks, but day 4 with this one was all I could take. If I didn't want a traditional looking mule deer the 3 pt would have been a GREAT deer! I can't wait to go again!

Having success is pretty neat. My younger boy shot his first buck in 2005 and ever since he is really motivated to be a serious mule deer hunter. It's been a fun transformation. I will try to post a picture of his 2005 buck below.
