You measure between the g1-g2, g2-3, g3-g4, & g4-g5. Smallest circumference in each area.

This illustration is off of a B&C score sheet. the "H" measurements are your mass measurements.

That's what one of the biggest mistakes people do is measure the base or button for a mass measurement. It cool to know but its not for scoring!

Also, one of the biggest mistakes is everyone wants to take the biggest measurements on the mass, its for sure the smallest circumference.

The other mistake people make is measuring the 6th point twice, once in the beam length, and then again individually.

She said I was Fat & Short!

So that must mean I have decent Mass with a Short Beam?:D

For "GOSH" Sakes,We got "TARDS" on this Site that can't handle a Damn,I Mean DANG thing, maybe MM should add a Church/Biblical Forum for the MM'ers that can't handle the Hunting Forums?
Pfffffffffff............!!!

I don't care if they're big or small!
If they throw lead I like em all!

:p

>Horsecreek - got any pics of
>your heavy bull?

I'm having a hard time uploading from my phone...I'll put one up later when I get home.

Y'all have some huge bulls! Here's a set of sheds I found this spring that are the heaviest I've stumbled upon.

Left 9, 7 6/8, 7 7/8, 6 5/8
Right 10 3/8, 7 7/8, 7, 7 3/8
Total 63 7/8

Just trying to understand this mass measurement process. Can someone explain how a bull with alot of mass vs one with little mass is treated equal. It would seem to me that the one with alot of mass does not get credit for all of the bone when only measured at 4 positions. Not saying they should change anything but it would seem like weighing the antlers would give more credit than just measuring 4 positions. ???

After I posted this I realized that you would be mixing inches with pounds and that just doesn't work. Oh well

Ok all you official scorers. In this NT rack, is this how you see the 4th H measurements?

Of course going to the smallest diameter available

I'm not an official measurer, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night... With that in mind, and having watched one of my good friends, who is a well-respected measurer, put tape to a lot of antlers and having asked him a question about a similar measurement... I don't think you would take the H4 measurement at those points.

For instance, on the left antler, the G4 and the extra point (not G5) are a ?common base? point. Meaning that there isn't a clear separation along the beam between the two points, thus making it an extra point and not the G5 (think of a figure 8 where the base of the two points touch). So with that in mind the actual mass measurement would be taken at the midway point between the end of the beam and the G4, the same way it would be taken if it were a 5 point with no G5s. Or they could measure the point that comes off of the base of the royal as the beam and the small point on it as the G5, thus taking the mass measurement between those points, and the lower point as an extra. It all depends on what the horn looks like in person.
