I was fortunate enough to experience a hunt of a lifetime with my dad this season in the Book Cliffs Roadless area. My dad is 62 yrs old and he hiked and hunted like a 20 year old. I have been on some neat hunts over the years since I have been hunting on my own but still my best hunt memories are following behind my dad before I was old enough to hunt. I was living through him. I experienced that again this year and it was my honor to get to do it. We found this bull the day before the opener and named him "Pretty Boy" One, because he just had such a perfect set of antlers and two because he had such control of his herd of 15 cows and was staying clear of all the other bulls wanting to "pick a fight." We found him again opening day in the afternoon across the canyon and had tons of time to set up and my dad made a perfect 660 yard high shoulder shot with his 300RUM Sendero set up for long range. (Thanks HunterTurbo!!)We shot from the top of the ridge you see in the background.
We were outfitted by Double C Outfitters and I cant say enough about the Crumps and their operation and the top notch quality guys they are. For example, there is something about eating the best ever dutch oven Beef Brisket around the campfire after a long day of hunting while listening to bulls bugle from camp that is awfully tough to beat.
I also have a fall spot and stalk bear tag that I havent filled yet so if any of you have been in the Roadless recently and know where a bear is hanging out, please let me know. I am going to make at least one more trip back in to try to tag out on a bear. Best of luck to each of you this hunting season.
