How did your roadless hunt go with George?

LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-11 AT 04:39PM (MST)[p]It went really well. George wasn't with us. We were with Rusty and Alesha and had a great time. My brother didn't take the biggest bull we saw (missed shots or we pushed a really big one to another hunter on the ridge), but he was happy with the results. I'd recommend Flying J anytime.

Pics?

I don't think there is any other quality
so essential to success of any kind as the
quality of perseverance. It overcomes
almost everything, even nature.

Okay so here are some pics of the bull my brother shot:

Like I said, definetly not the biggest bull we saw up there (way too many bulls in that area to choose from, it was awesome!). This bull was taken after passing on a 340 bull laying in his bed chewing his own cud/falling asleep at 50 yards (Rusty has the video to prove this). The reason they passed is because there was a large 7X6 that was in his bed just over the next ridge that we had spotted and Rusty and My Bro were putting a stalk on. I'd guess the 7x6 would've probably went around 360.

Funny thing about the 7x6 is that I really think he had been shot previously in the archery hunt (so if there is an archer out there that put one arrow into a 7x6 bull, arrow would have hit him on right behind his right shoulder, he was still alive. We could tell through the spotting scope (this was the first morning with no prior rifle shots)something was different. Then we noticed the wound behind his front shoulder and while he was in his bed he was licking the heck out of it. My bro passed on the 340 bull in his bed and got just over the ridge when this bull (and his 40 some odd cows/calfs) winded them and began to move up the hill. My brother took a long shot 350-400 yards at this bull and missed. They followed him up and over the ridge and saw him again at about 50 yards through some really thick timber but couldn't get another shot at him.

This next bull I'll show a picture of was the bull we were going after that we had seen in the morning and loved his 3rds and had planned to make a stalk in the evening. Evening came and we made a stalk. He had some cows with him and my Bro and Rusty moved up another ridge after him. When they finally got to the top they pushed the bull and cows out 600-700 yards in front of them near the top of the ridge (I might add that they were not very far from the horse trail at ten-mile knoll) as another hunter who was on top of the ridge saw him and put him down (I counted 7 shots). Good job on this other hunter as the bull is a beauty and not only do I love his 3rd, but the extra junk on his 1st and 2nd on his right side (don't know if he has posted here or not, but I've blanked out his face in case, he might even have a different story as well, but we sure helped coming from the bottom of the canyon pushing him up to them)!:

Once I heard the shots we knew that a bull had been taken, however, my brother didn't know if it was the bigger bull or another. All of a sudden, this smaller bull came through some trees about 200 yards away up the ridge and my brother decided to take him. Shot him in the face (right under his eye) with his first shot as he was running and later took him down with two more shots one behind the shoulder and the last breaking his neck. You can see the bottom where we came from to push the bull up to the other hunter and the ridge in the background where we spotted from.

It was an awesome adventure and I hope I can draw next year (I've got 14 pts right now).

Congrats to your Bro. that Rusty is a mountain goat, my out of shape A$$ could not keep up with him in Idaho.
