After reading some of the posts from this past week, I decided it was time to get back to what I enjoy about this site, just great pictures and good stories. So here goes???

Trevor fulfilled many hunters? dreams at the young age of just 13! Many people have told him that he will never be the same after this hunt, they are probably right. He will be a BIG BULL hunter for the rest of his life! Things fell into place after his mother drew an Arizona early rifle bull tag in unit 10, which she then transferred to Trevor, (how lucky can you get!) High Point Outfitters went to work looking for a special bull for Trevor. After passing bull after bull (all caught on film) in the 350-370 range the first day and half the right bull finally gave Trevor the chance on the second night of his hunt. Trevor had been practicing with his rifle for over a month; it was time to put all of his practice time to good use. After a couple of misses, just to get our adrenalin running good, he put the hammer down on this great 401 3/8" bull. Truly harvesting a bull of a life time. It was a great hunt, and it was all caught on video for him to be enjoyed for the rest of his life. Come make a memory with High Point Outfitters, when you draw an Arizona tag, call us and let us help you with your hunt of a life time.

Congrats to Trevor and all involved, that is a bull of a lifetime.

Tag Transfers
Under Arizona Revised Statutes and Arizona
Game and Fish Commission Rules there
are ways people can transfer big game tags
to children.
A parent, grandparent or legal guardian holding
a big game tag may allow the use of that
tag by their minor child or minor grandchild
pursuant to the following requirements:
? The minor child is 10 to 17 years old on the
date of transfer;
? The minor child has a vaild hunting or combination
license on the date of transfer;
? A minor child less than 14 years old has satisfactorily
completed a Department-approved
hunter education course by the beginning
date of the hunt;
? The parent or guardian must accompany the
child in the field or, if a grandparent allows
a minor grandchild to use the grandparent's
permit or tag, the grandparent, parent or
the child?s guardian must accompany the
child in the field. In either case, the adult
must be within 50 yards of the child when
the animal is taken.

A picture with Mom in the field would have been wise...hope she was there

Very good point! They said they got it all on video so if by some chance they didn't get a picture with the mom in it I'm pretty sure the video should show her being there. Now if the mom wasn't anywhere to be seen in the video either then that would look very bad because what are the chances of the mom not being in any of the pics or in the video as well.

Either way hell of a bull kid!

You bring up a really good point about Mom being present in the field on his hunt, but note the rule says "The parent or guardian must accompany the child in the field...."

In this case I wonder that since the dad was there in the field on the hunt, and he is in fact a "guardian" of his minor child, that maybe the requirements of the rule were being met.

Again it is a good and valid question, and as a volunteer Hunter Education instructor here in AZ, it is a question I'm going to ask of my supervisor's in Phx and absolutely get clarification on.

But the other folks are right, awesome bull and experience for the young man!

Don I teach also and I don't want to take anything fromm the kid..it's a great bull but it's my understanding that the "tag holder" that transfers the tag should be within 50 yards when the animal is harvested but let us know what you find out. Thanks Andy

I HATE THAT KID!!!!Just kidding. Great job, Congrats.

Government doesn't fix anything and has spent trillions proving it!!!
Let's face it...After Monday and Tuesday, even the calender says WTF!

Well let me share a similar elk archery tag story with you.

A guy from Oregon drew a Unit 7W archery bull elk tag. Because of work, he couldn't come so he transferred the tag to his 15 year old son. Now he went to a superior court judge in Oregon and got guardianship temporarily transferred to his best friend, who was going to be on the hunt.

We went to the main office in Phx, got the tag transferred and they accepted the guardianship order without question.

FYI, I have sent this question to Gene Elms, AZ G&F Law Enforcement Chief, along to all our Hunter Ed supervisors. I am awaiting a call from them with a definitive answer.

I may be wrong, but I sure hope that all is OK with this hunt and the fact the dad, who is no doubt his guardian was with him and present during the hunt so this young man taking this awesome bull will ultimately be OK.

Maybe she didn't want to be in the pictures. They never said she wasn't there. Also those pictures were at night. We better see the video so the Monster Muleys Kill Scene Investigators can confirm it was shot during legal daylight hours.

Oh good job on a great bull!!!!!

tom_thumb,
You have only made 6 post so far. 3 Post talking up Yavapai Outfitters And 3 post talking bad about High point Outfitters. Who are you?

Some day when my son or daughter kill i will be sure to put their picts up here. Who the heck are you guys?? We are losing our younger generation of hunters and a kid kills a big bull and he gets this kind of treatment?? Im sure that they videoed the hunt and took lots of pictures cause they were breaking the law. Come on!!
Great bull and a happy youth thats what its about!! Smile on kiddo!! Thanks for sharing your story and picts with us!!

Dude you are an A$$HOLE, YOU JUST CAN'T BE HAPPY FOR THE YOUNG MAN. CONGRATS KID GOOD JOB!

It's sad there are so many people on this forum that always speculate and try to bring something negative to an exciting moment in this youngmans life.

(Don Martins post from the Arizona MM Forum)

OK, looks like a lot of posts on this thread got deleted..don't know why, but just let me answer one critic before I pass on some very good news.
I think that the point about who was required to be present in the field AFTER a tag transfer from a parent to a minor child was a valid question.
I sure didn't see where anyone was trying to bust somebody's bubble about this great hunt!
This kind of question seems to occur every year, and we hear a 100 different stories and interpretations.
Since I am the Master Hunter Education Instructor for Region III I sure wanted the right info as I speak to 100's of people a year about this and other G&F matters and obviously I want to be right in the information I disseminate.
I said in my posts (deleted) that I thought that because the father is a legal guardian of a child in Arizona that I felt that even though the mother had signed over the tag, that the legal requirement for a legal guardian to be in the field with the minor child had been fulfilled. I was right.
Here is the e-mail I got from Kellie Tharp, who is the Education Branch Chief at G&F concerning this question. It is here word for word.
"Hi Don. I was able to speak with one of our law enforcement officers today and get the answer to your question. Essentially a parent, guardian or grand parent can transfer their tag to their child or grandchild. The tag holder must be present (unless deceased) at the AG&F office to complete the transfer. Then, any legal guardian can accompany the juvenile into the field. Here is the information that was provided regarding this question.
Arizona Revised Statute 17-332(D) authorizes the transfer of big game tags originally issued to grandparents, parents and legal guardians to their minor grandchildren and/or children. It also authorizes big game tags to be transferred to non-profit organizations for transfer to minors with life threatening illnesses. This statute is permissive in nature rather than restrictive, and the overall intent was to further encourage and facilitate the Department's hunter recruitment and retention goals by getting children into the field.
Arizona Revised Statute 17-332(D) requires that after the tag is transferred, a parent, legal guardian, or grandparent must accompany the child into the field. There is some confusion in regards to whether the statutory intent was that the parent, legal guardian, or grandparent must be the adult that accompanies the child on the hunt. Legislative staff indicates this was not the intent of the legislature and that any parent or legal guardian (or any grandparent if the tag was transferred from a grandparent) should be allowed to accompany the child on the hunt.
I hope that this helps clarify, please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thanks!"

Well there it is, in black and white. This should surely clear up any and all misconceptions about this procedure and what is required.
In a nutshell, after the tag transfer is done, ANY PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN can be in the field with the child during the hunt.
In this case, all was done right and the dad accompanying the child on the hunt, was as I had stated, completely legal.
Congrats again to all who were involved in this hunt, and yes the son's 7W cow tag is still valid and can be transferred to another through a non-profit.
I checked with our Hunt Of A Lifetime State Ambassador Matt Minshall to see if we could use the tag and unfortunately we can't due to the short time frame when that 7W hunt opens (next week!) Maybe another non-profit can use it, if they can I hope they'll get a hold of you folks ASAP and let's get another kid out there on an elk hunt!

Don thanks for the clarification on the issue of who needs to be present on an Arizona transferred tag issue. This is consistent with the information I had received from two AG&F employees in the Flagstaff office and one from the Phoenix office, before this hunt occurred. Don thanks for all you do for our sport throughout the year.

I am sorry to have caused the controversy on MM, I hope now everyone can just congratulate Trevor on such an awesome bull. As most of you know, it is difficult to have it all come together on any hunt, but especially when hunting with a junior hunter. It was a once in a life-time hunt for me. It was a great adventure with my son Blake running the camera and with my son Trevor pulling the trigger. For me it doesn't get any better than that. I will remember this hunt for the rest of my life. Being with my two sons chasing bugling elk was the adventure, taking a great bull was just icing on the cake.
