First archery elk hunt

LAST EDITED ON Oct-07-11 AT 12:02PM (MST)[p]I archery hunted western Montana a couple of weeks ago and if I can get P&Y to open a category for 4x4 elk only I think I may have the world record.
We were hunting about 12 miles in the wilderness and killed this bull about 1 mile from camp I'm guessing. We had bulls bugling hard starting the 2nd day and had a huge bull at 75 yards then had the wind swirl. We were on him a couple of more times, but found out he didn't get that big by being stupid. He played the thermals and bedded on the backside of a steep cliff that didn't allow any kind of stalk. When we called this bull in there was no doubt he was getting an arrow flung at him. This was my first wilderness hunt and my first archery elk hunt so I'm extremely happy with my bull and can't wait to get back out there.

I was guided on this hunt. I didn't have all the gear I needed for this kind of hunt and decided since this was my first wilderness hunt it might be a good idea to get some help.

Congrat's on a nice first archery bull. Anytime you get one with a bow it is always a trophy.

Nice, A rack on on a packhorse is always a pretty sight.
Was this a old bull or young bull. Great looking 4x4 for sure.

Definitely an old bull or at least mature.
