Hey I'm trying to gather people's thoughts about the North Warner unit in Oregon for deer? Just curious if anyone has hunted it in the last few years with any sucess.

Silverlake, I hunted the Wagontire last year (06) which I'm sure you know is next to N. Warner and there was no deer, in 6 days of HARD hunting we saw 11 does and 2 lil bucks. In 10+ days of scouting we saw 3 deer. I did talk to a lady in Lakeview at the service station and she said they saw alot bucks during archery season in one of the Warner units, I can't remember if it was North or South. But she also said that the locals were saying they were not seeing anything during rifle season.

Good luck

North Warner deer numbers are way way way way down. I was all over that unit last year for Antelope and SHeep. I saw 2 bucks all year that went over 27 one was a toad and isstill alive on the Ranch. The other was a spindly wide 4x3. He broke off during the rut. Everything else was out was small and not too many of them. Hopefully they will put a Government hunter in there this year and just take care of a bunch of the problem. They have had good Fawn recruitment the past 2 years so we will see what happens.

My daughter had a youth tag for the September hunt this past year. We saw very few deer and spent a lot of time behind the spotting scope. She ended up taking a 2.5 year old three point which was the only buck we saw.

I have never hunted the wagontire unit but in 03' on a scouting trip in the Silvies unit for deer, we were going down hwy. 20 just east of Brothers and we saw a giant buck close to 30in wide and real tall in the shoulder of the hwy., it was about 1:30 am, that is the biggest buck I have seen in the wild!! P.S. Our silvies hunt went 4 for 7 with 4 forked horns, and a couple close calls on nicer bucks.
