Your thoughts on few deer but the chance of a good buck when you find them are right on the money though.

TODD, THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS. IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN THE COUNTRY THAT BORDERS THE LAKE ISNT THAT A SO-GENERAL TAG? SEEMS TO BE MORE LIKE SHEEP COUNTRY. THE 3-BUCKS THAT I HAVE SEEN (KILLED AND MOUNTED) ARE ABSOLUTE GIANTS. SORRY IF I SEEM TO BE RAMBLING ON, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW IF I WOULD BE WAISTING MY TIME DOWN THERE? AFTER SEEING THESE DEER, IT JUST GOT ME THINKING ALITTLE.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-14-07 AT 05:23PM (MST)[p] You definatley won't be wasting your time there. Awesome country. However if you believe that by not seeing a deer you've wasted your time then I wouldn't go. You more than likely wont see a deer in 50 trips. You are correct the west side is So. general south of bullfrog to the Az. state line. If you get a sheep tag holler.
Almost forgot. Send the DWR a thank you for putting the lions on a draw system in the mid 80's effectively driving thier numbers up and pushing them out to new areas, killing the deer out that used to inhabit the area. The bucks you saw probably were killed before 1990.

A lot of big bucks in that area of the state. Just remember that Lake Powell is part of the Glen Canyon National Park.

THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSES. I GUESS IT IS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT. DO ANY OF YOU KNOW FRED MORRIS? THE GUY IS A VERY IMPRESSIVE HUNTER. I WILL SEE IF I CAN GET SOME PHOTOS ON HERE FOR YOU ALL TO SEE. YOU WONT BE DISAPOINTED. THANKS.

sorry--

I wasn't thinking that far south. The Kaiparowitz unit does have some good bucks. I too have seen a few good bucks come off of there. They are far and few between. Start with the Smokey Mtn. quad and start looking at 50 mile mtn.

Looks like those NPS pricks left hunting off the "outdoor activities" list. You can hunt Glen Canyon Recreation area with a valid hunting License. Just got back from there this afternoon, lookin for sheep and also dusted a BOBCAT and a red. Had many a run in with them "parkies" only one of the green goons even knew it was legal to hunt there. Got a buddy that some chunky dike ranger proned out with a shotgun to his head for 2 hours because he was sheep hunting. She didn't think you could hunt there and held him at gun point till her superior's got there. She dosen't work for them anymore. Anyway expect trouble with those pricks if your down there, just know the laws and don't let them push you around. You'll be ok.

Done some sheep hunting in the South San Juan. some MONSTER bucks in that unit. one day I'll go back and gather up the shed we left on the %&#*$!% Mesa. there are,or atleast were more deer than you may think.

THANK YOU ALL FOR INFO & RESPONSES. I WILL PROBABLY CHECK IT OUT. I WILL SPEAK WITH THE GENTLEMAN THAT SHOT THE BUCKS THAT I HAD MENTIONED BEFORE, AND GET ALITTLE MORE DETAIL FROM HIM AS WELL. ANY MORE INFO WOULD BE GREAT, THANKS.

You have got to love the un-biased moderating around here.
Jump on and bad mouth an ex-con wildlife criminal and your post is deleated before it even goes up. Any chance to bash an LEO and all's 10-4.

I've drawn a Kiapowitz Early turkey tag down in this area for mid-April this spring.

Any of you knowledgeable guys with this area see many turkeys or know of where I might luck into one? Thanks
