This site seems very dead as of late so this might make it a little more fun. Its not the best pic in the world but is all I have.He was shot on CO second season on public ground. Guess the score and see if all U Mule Deer nuts out there are as good as U think U are.Because i do not have a total front on veiw I will give U the width. 27 1/2.Good luck

I will say about 187. He has some excellent mass....
How soon before you give us the real score?

I will maybe give it tell tomorrow. He has been scored by me and a P&Y guy so i know the score is right on. The mass is awsome on this buck.

I'll give a guess of 189" gross. Like you said, he sure has great mass!

Thanks for posting the picture. You're right about things being dead around here lately...

I'll say right at 180 gross. Wonderful buck with great mass, but I don't think the tine length is enough to get to 190 or that close to it. It would be nice to see more pictures.

Congratulations on a wonderful buck.

>I will give one more hint.
>The buck has 47 inchs
>of mass score!

Did you mean 37 inches? 47 inches would be just shy of 6" on every single circumference. 40 inches of mass is considered heavy, 47 inches is freakish! I simply dont see it, please post a better pic

Drum

JOn, he is worse than you!! LOL!
He cant even give the part of the state!
Sweet buck and congrats!
Is there even a measurement left to guess?
Lets see 178-197 covers what that buck will score.
Yep, too me he looks like a 185 ish (normal) frame then the above average MASS, 194?
Jeff

Very nice buck and one you should be proud of. The 47 inches of mass statement kind of streches things a little. Big bucks are roughly 3 inches between bases and 4.5 inches between the inside corners of the eyes. That some scale since most of the head is cropped off in the photo and the hunters arm is fully extended.

There are some good judges of deer and some guys on this website that know what that buck is through lots of experience. Guys that have seen enough big deer that they know what they are looking at. He is what he is and thats a nice buck with average fronts, short G-2's and nice bases.

It's a good thing that bucks have to be actually measured or the MM record book would be thicker than the New york city phone book and the US tax code combined.

JB

Well boys thats seems to be enough so I will tell U guys .The winner is Chesterwyo his guess was 1/8 of a inch off. I thought I could get some of U mule deer nuts to guess low. The offical score is 191 and 1/8. He has 46 and 7/8 inches of mass. His front wraps are 6 3/4 and his bases are a hair over 6 inches. I know it is not the best pic but its all i had. The guy behind it is 6'2 and is a big guy to boot. Like i said he has been officaly measured so I know the score is right plus I measured it myself. When I first put my hads on them I thought 185 at best but he is so thick horned it took away from his tine lenghth. My dads brother shot this buck and he has been on a role in the last 3 years. This is his 3rd buck in three years over 190 and all off public ground(no guide).

Drum, you know exactly what a "front wrap" is! It's what your hottie girl friend wares when she doesn't want you looking at her nipage! :)

NvrEnuf

Heck, just come out with it and call him a liar Drum. We all know you want to.

Oh my gosh! Did I say that out loud?

LAST EDITED ON Jan-26-07 AT 04:47PM (MST)[p]U can not figure out what i mean by front wraps. I think U just have a problem with the score. There is a few MM members that have had there hands on it and the know the score is for real. I posted it because i knew it would stump a few of U muley nuts like myself. Its not my buck so I dont care what it scores I was just trying to have a little fun on this dead site as of late(i mean pics anyways). If it were someone who did not know anything about scoreing and big heads I would explain what front wraps are but huntsonora knows what i mean by the term front wraps U are just looking to pick a fight because U where off on your score. The pic is not a very good one thats why i warned U and yes there is better pics of him just dont have them on my puter.

Hey, I'm not trying to start anything, but could you explain to me what you meant when you said:

"so thick horned it took away from his tine lenghth"

- please explain. . .

Great buck. . .

When U look at him in person more and little in the pic his horns are really wooded so it makes the points look shorter than they really are. Like in the pic it looks like the backs are week but let me asure U they are really pretty good all though not as good as the fronts. Like I said even holding the horns i would say 185 but it was scored twice and both times were with in 2/8ths of each other. The wraps are what puts the buck up there.Like i said this was for fun.

I have a bunch more pics U guys have not seen and this was kinda a test to see what would happen. I might post next week a new pic and try it again with better pics.lol. I used that buck because i knew it would make most miss with there score.

I am a new guy here, and I will probably get in trouble. I think the tape they were using was missing the last two or more inches. The buck is a nice looking buck but I am leaning on the side of 175 gross at the very most. Was the spread you gave inside? The H4 is looking nice but nothing else leads me to believe that there is 47" of mass, sorry. look at this buck
318816.jpg

When you compair the length of the tines what do you see? This one has a week G4 on the one side, The rest are long, and his mass is 39" overall. This buck measures gross 193.
I am sorry I don't know what you mean by wraps. Also when I have measured deer it is tine length that has add the most points. If you have other pictures or if you can post a copy of the score sheet I would love to see it. Ron

LAST EDITED ON Jan-26-07 AT 07:51PM (MST)[p]This Aaron guy is after internet ego. And it isn't even his buck. Post the score sheet. mtmuley OH, I forgot my guess 187 and change.

I'm sorry but the mass thing has got me stumped. Geeze, I just killed a buck that is palmated like a moose and yet it don't have the mass you state that buck has.

Mass means next to nothing when scoring mule deer. This deer gets all of it's score from those awesome main beams which look to be pretty close to being the same length as the inside spread, so that deer gains a lot of inches right there. Then throw in those eye gaurds which look to be 3 inches or so and one has a little kicker on it, lets say thats in inch long thats 7 inches just in eye gaurds alone. I will be the first to admit that at first glance this buck dosn't look much over 180 but when you take a closer look it all comes together. I'm sure I'll be rideculed by all the big buck gurus who post on this baord but thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

I never gave a score, how could I have been off? Also, I have never in my life heard the term "front wraps". I have absolutely no clue what you are refering to. Are you talking about the G4's?

Now I'll give a score, I dont think the deer makes 180", he might be in the mid 170's. I have no idea how to get into the 190's with him. Even with the quality of the picture I just cant find the inches to get him there. All I asked for was a better picture, I am curious to see where I am off. I am not calling anybody a liar and I am not knocking your deer but he appears to me to have avg beams, short G2s, short G3s and nowhere near 47" of mass. Pictures can certainly be deceiving and it might be the case here, I just want to see where I am off.

Please post another picture and the measurements. I look forward to seeing where the differences are.

Drummond

Drummond,

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that what he is calling a "front wrap" is the tip of the mainbeam to the G-4.

If that buck that idahoron posted has 39 inches of mass then I think the other buck could be in the mid 40's..He is definitely heavier than the idaho buck..check out the palmation on his right antler just before he branches..That's HEAVY!!
Before I read anybody's posts I stared at the picture for a minute and thought he was around 190..I ended up guessing 192..mainly because of the mass and eyeguards..I think that's what pushes him from a 180+ to 190+ gross..Great buck!!

Maybe what he is calling the front-wrap is the H-1?? He stated that the bases were just over 6".......Never heard of the expression before either. It is not on any score sheets that is for sure, meaning his "front wrap".

Brian

Remember that on your H measurements you are taking the smallest circumference, not the largest

Drum

Pictures are often deceiving. I came up with the score of 190 using the measurements below. I'm a sucker for guess score games (I even pull up the calculator; Yes, admittedly I am a score nerd), although I generally keep the score to myself. If the buck measures an inch or two higher, it would not surprise me.

MB-24??...24
G1-2.5? ..24

H3-4????..4
H4-6????..6

=190

Sure it was just for fun, and look how much fun it's gennerated. Lots of posts, and lots of interest. Looks like fun is really in the eyes of the beholder.

I'd say, for this site especially, if you post a buck and ask for a score, you better have some thick skin, otherwise just post it, and be done. . .

Great thread, still dont know how it is that mass, in anyway impacts tine length. . .

Great buck! Be proud of him!

I was going to guess 185 before reading all the posts. I'm sure the "front wraps" are the H1 measurements and Drum you are right about the measurement being taken at the smallest circumference. Many people measure the greatest instead. This picture may be decieving but the tine length doesn't seem to put him in the 190's even with the mass.

I think he is calling the H3 the front wraps and H4 the back wraps. I'm sure he isn't calling the H1 the front wrap since he refers to the base measurment also. The H3 is also very impressive on this buck.

Beautiful buck regardless of what it scores.
Some of the guys bashing on the score the guy gave have done it themselves.
Relax enjoy the picture and the fact he shared it with us.....Gee then people wonder why many do not post as much anymore.
Great buck and thanks for sharing.
Best,
Jerry

Guys that come on here and challange the skills of another, open themselves up for these kinds of replys. If you dont want it, dont ask for it.

Exactly!

Knack,

I dont see where anybody has been "bashed". Please clarify because all I have seen is guys having a difference of opinion and asking to see more pictures and measurements to find out where they may have been off on their judgements.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-07 AT 01:06PM (MST)[p]I agree 100%. In fact, I was impressed that it never got out of hand - with that many posts, I would have expected some bashing, but it never happend, it's been clean and honest! Great discussion!

WELL JUST ADDING MY SCORES I CAME UP WITH A GUESS OF 183 5/8, GIVING HIM A 24 INCH MAIN BEAM ON 1 SIDE AND 23 ON THE OTHER. G1 ON THE RH SIDE 2 4/8, LH 3 3/8. G2 RH 14, LH 14 4/8, G3 8 ON BOTH SIDES, G4 RH 9, LH 10. MASS 21 5/8 PER SIDE. I MAY NOT BE RIGHT, BUT I THINK IT IS CLOSE.

I AM NOW MORE INTERESTED IN WAHT A FRONT WRAP IS THAN WHAT THIS BUCK SCORES!!!
Aaron, there are a few guesses to what a front wrap is but nobody knows! I would venture to say you and your buddies have that phrase to yourselves.
LET US KNOW!!
Again,Great buck !
