A guy at work shared this photo with me. His neighbor harvested this buck in southern Idaho this past fall. You gotta like the guy's pose!

Hmmm...looks like the photo didn't show up. Let me try again. It has been a long time since I posted a picture.

I see the buck smiling at the camera, but what's the proud hunter looking at ? LOL.

He is probably looking at a bigger buck up on the hill behind the cameraman!! With him sitting on the deer and the death grip he has on the antlers, it looks to me like he is going to ride the deer down the hill.

This brings something else to mind. If you ever draw the Bookcliffs deer tag, and you are trophy hunting, make darn sure you count points before you pull the trigger. I can't believe how many large management type bucks are out there. So many bucks would be looking at us, and we would assume it was a big 4 point, only to be disappointed when he turned his head to show only 2 or 3 points on a side.

Amen to that response about the Book Cliffs. If you look at the one I just posted, we didnt count before dad pulled the trigger. Hence his 3x4.

Hey grizzmoose, those are both very nice bucks you got there, even with your dad's missing the G3. Did you see a lot of big 2 points, 2x4's and 3x4's there? Did you hunt muzzy or rifle?

If I was to ever shoot a 2-pt. again, I would definately want it to look like that one. What a tank.

I hunted rifle in 2005 and 2002. Lots and lots of 3x4's. I did see a few of those gigantic 2 points like the one in this post. Also saw a freakish looking 3x4 that probably had a spread of no more than 15 inches, 18 or so tall, and the points actually crossed in the front. It was UGLY.

Grizz..you said in your post you hunted the east side of the Bookcliffs. Mind if I ask if you were in the Railroad Canyon and Sweetwater Canyon area, or were you east of the McCook Ridge area?

So you drew in '05 with no bonus points?

I had a Bookcliff's muzzleloader permit a couple years ago and the biggest buck I saw while scouting was a 2 point. I'll bet he was pushing 34-36" wide and was massive! I would've killed him in a heartbeat, but I couldn't find him during the hunt.

A section of the southern idaho units are two point only. That would be some two point to take out of there. My question is would he be legal as a two point, or are eyeguards considered for the two point only regs. Anybody know off hand. I guess he would be legal for three point here in Washington. Awesome bucks by the way.

In Idaho, a two point is anything that has only 2 points or less on at least one side. Eye guards are NOT considered points here.

THIS CRACKS ME UP!!!

BACK IN THE BANNER DAY OF MULE DEER!!!

HERE IN UTAH!!!

I SEEN SOME HUGE 2 & 3 POINT BUCKS!!!

THAT WERE YOUNG & I'M SURE SOME OF THEM TURNED INTO BIG 4+ POINT BUCKS!!!

NOW DAYS IF SOMEBODY SEE'S OR GETS A BIG 2 POINT!!!

WE HERE PEOPLE SAY:THATS A MANAGEMENT BUCK,GOOD TO GET HIM OUT OF THE HERD,WTF???

WTF???

BUCKS CAN'T BE BIG AT 2 POINTS???

WTF???

YES I KNOW SOME 2 POINTS WILL ALWAYS BE 2 POINTS & TAKING THEM KIND OUT WOULD BE O.K.!!!

BUT SOME OF YOU JUMP RIGHT ON KILLING ANY BIG TWO POINT BEFORE YOU KNOW RATHER HE'S A BIG YOUNG 2 POINT OR SOME 10 YEAR OLD BIG 2 POINT!!!

IF HE'S 4-8 YEARS OLD & STILL A 2 POINT BOOM HIM!!!

ME & MY BROTHER SEEN A MANAGEMENT TYPE BUCK ONE YEAR ON THE LaSAL MOUNTAINS,THIS PISSCUTTER WAS SO FRICKEN OLD & GRAY & CRIPPLED & HAD A ROMAN NOSE BUT WAS SPORTING TWEAKED SPIKE HORNS,NOW THAT WAS A MANAGEMENT BUCK!!!

I'LL BET NOT ONE OF YOU WOULD OF SHOT HIM THOUGH!!!

THE ONLY bobcat SUGGESTING JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE NICE SIZED AT 2-3 YEARS OLD DOESN'T NECESSARILY MAKE THEM A JUNK TYPE ANIMAL!!!

I don't know why this erks me so much but it ain't a 2-point---IT'S A FORKED HORN!!! Growing up in the regs it even stated FORKED HORN!!! --Two branches from a main beam--as like a Y.I guess people don't know how to count now days. Anyway just wanted to show this forked horn pic. We killed these in 1977 Modoc County Northern CA where I lived for 30+ years. The forked horn was 31 inches and the 3 point was 29. And we had a helluva time getting them into that friggin little jeep. HEHHE and no they weren't killed on private ground. Enjoy!!(P.S. we did our part for the genetic cleansing even back then) HHEHE.

seen this buck december 2006. the buck is well over 30 inches and sports a 2x2 frame.

Nice Forky! The hunter looks happy that's all that really matters. He's probably eating some venison today while watching the game.

I did draw with no points. My dad, brother and I all put in together. Dad and I had 0 points, and my brother had 3.

We were really all over the place. We hunted right next to Colorado a little on Rabbit Mountain/Dragon Road. We camped on Atchee Ridge. I took my buck near Kings Well road, and my dad shot his near Wolf Den Road.

35". It would have been wider if not for the deformity near the base on his right side, looks like he hit something while the antlers were developing to make that side jog back and in.

WOW! That is a helluva 3 point. I think I would be pulling the trigger if I came across that buck. Thanks for sharing the pic.

Robert is right, you gotta get close and ask real nice to see a bucks teeth to see if he is old or not. If the teeth are worn down you just play it off and than POW! Never know what hit em'

Nice write up on that 3 pointer in Trophy Hunter too if I remember right?

Smith, US Special Forces

Back in the 80's there was a massive 2 point we called "The Great White Two Point". He was close to 30 inches tall and about 24 wide, big heavy horned but a flat two point. We had his sheds from several years. He was not a buck that was past his prime - just in his genes. He was finally killed and left for dead during the one of the final 3 point or better years out there.

Fudd,

That buck has made my top 10 list for best buck I have ever seen
on MM. I don't care what the score is, That would be a dream buck of 5 life times. I would love to see more pic's of it.

Hey! Let me first of by sayin nice deer. That pic that someone else posted of the beg 2 point runnin in the snow looks identical to a buck i filmed this year on the winter range. He is somewhere between 29"-31" wide and hope I can find his horns. Me and my gal have been out tons and put in many hours lookin for it but still no luck. Oh well maybe some day. I'll get pics on as soon as i can. My hunting buddy killed a nice three point last year that netted 165". My best friend and I were hunting the buck in archery but my pal could never seal the deal. Anyways i'm glad atleast one of my friends got it ant not some underserving rookie. haha i'll get pics of those when i can to. thanks guys! happy hunting.
