378" Big Beaver Bull; Kill Shot Video

Great video Kelly. I was lucky enough to help Markay haul this bull off the mountain after his dad found it (a whole other story in itself which is amazing). Just getting to this bull dang near killed me. Markay and his brother Devin are stinking mountain goats. Most guys wouldn't have had the endurance to get into the area where this bull was let alone go in there 3 days straight prior to the hunt starting, and then a 4th day on the opener. Markay double lunged him and the rest is history. All of this on top of a 180" muley he arrowed just a month earlier in the same area.

Thanks for the video! Great Bull.

Looks like a tough area to hunt, but it obviously holds some good bulls because of it. Congrats to all involved!

sorry, I won't look at video of someone plugging another website. I really don't get along with founder but I think you need to pay for advertising. Any reason you can't just upload it to this site? brian has places for video so put it there or get off this site. Sorry, I just don't like people riding on coat tails. I for one have not gone to your site nor will I. and no i have no grudes against you and have no qualm with you. Just quit plugging your site on a site someone else put a lot of effort into. just my two cents.

and no brian this is no peace offering. Just my opinion

Sort of to the point there Stinky and I guess I don't really disagree with you seeing as how he could do exactly like you stated. These sites aren't cheap and using this one isn't really appropriate without remuneration to Founder.

People better stop posting Youtube videos in the Campfire then! I'm sure you have never click on any of those x(

I made the website for fun, I dont make a dime off the website, I also made the video for the hunter for free. I shared the video because I thought that other hunters would like it. I also promote Monster Muley's on my website and also give a link for any of my website user's to link back to Monster Muley's. I am not riding on anyones coat tail.

What a great bull! Cool video too. I am sure that if Founder has a problem with your site and posting videos here then he will PM you.

So, were they able to recover any of the meat? Looks to be pretty early in the year and recovery 24 hours after the shot makes that seem doubtful.

Congrats to Markay. Sounds like he had a great year.

Yes it does beavis. And 150 yards is a long way away too...
(Sorry to sound skeptical, I have lost things on my desk at arms reach for longer than that, just saying... Obviously I don't know the whole story so I am in no position to judge. Just curious.)

I have a couple of questions for you.
1. How many times a day do you take your shirt off and stand in front of mirror and point and yourself say, " you the man".

2. What makes plugging a personal website so much worse than plugging yourself?

In fact why don't you go plug yourself!

Man, this post has taken a serious turn for the worse.

And I have seen how it goes from here. The hunter comes on and explains that he shot the elk at 9 am, looked to be a lung shot and the bull ran down-hill and into the thickest nastiest bunch of oak you have ever seen. They found no blood until they got downhill 100 yards from where the bull was shot. The blood was the size of a softball. Assuming (uh-oh here we go-a hunter who only has one area of blood to go on makes an assumption)the bull kept going down hill the hunter and his brother spent the rest of daylight hours scouring the entire mountain down hill of the blood spot. Not giving up the hunter hiked off the mountain and got 3 more guys to hike in there the next morning. After 5 hours of searching and turning up not even a drop of blood the group of 5 goes back to the spot of blood where one of the group says, "what if the bullet didn't exit and this blood is from the entrance wound on the left side of the bull. What if he got to here and turned around to look up at you guys and after turning around decided to go up hill through this drainage rather than into the oak brush." With that thought the group started searching up hill and an hour later found the bull lodged against a downed log. The meat on the side of the bull that was against the log was spoiled, but the rest was salvageable and the group hiked it off the mountain.

So now comes the part where the guys who never miss and never lose an animal, and take an animal out whole so as not to waste a spec of meat say, "what kind of un-ethical hunter doesnt use a bullet that will leave a hole the size of a watermellon when hunting?" And, "Everybody knows when you shoot and elk in the lungs and it runs down hill for 100 yards it will stop, turn, completely change direction, and go straight uphill before killing over."

To avoid that scrutiny I will tell you what really happened so the perfect hunters feel better about this hunt-even if Stinky's panties are in a wad about the video.

He shot the bull at noon in perfect light. They saw the bullet hit the bull. The bull said "why?" and ran down hill. It left a blood trail 4 feet wide until it jumped off a cliff and plunged into a lake far below. Upon impact the horns were broken to peices which is good becaue we dont hunt for trophies we only hunt for meat. Because the entrance and exit holes were so big the bull filled with water and sunk to the bottom. The hunters hiked off the mountain and came back as quickly as possible (in the middle of the night) with full scuba gear and dove down to the bull. So as not to defile the animal by removing it from its place of rest they cut off all the meat and then hiked off the mountain. Crap-that doesnt work either-only an unethical hunter would shoot an elk so near a cliff that dumps into a lake. Oh well, it was worth a try.

LOL - great explanation bigjake! I thought I saw the scuba gear in one of the earlier shots.

Look, I am just curious - blame it on the winter doldrums and the thirst for a good hunting story - and I was just wondering, not trying to criticize at all. And you are right, with all the critics on here it is hard to ask without sounding like you are being judgemental. Couldn't be farther from the truth in my case. I think this is an awesome bull and a pretty good video (great song to it too!). Obviously it is not a professional production, but that makes me like it even more. The shot was great - he sure didn't mess around either - when he saw the bull, he put the dot on it and squeezed - there was no time to waste and he got it done! Good to hear that he was able to salvage at least half of the meat.

Whenever something doesn't go 100% perfectly there will always be questions as to why. It think it is human nature to say "what would I have done" or "what could have been done differently to prevent this from happening" As we all know, the axiom says "hindsight is 20/20" - and that is when what should have happened parts from what actually happened (even when what should have happened was not practical in the moment). But at the same time, it is also good practice to put yourself in someone else's situation - even theoretically for a moment or two - to try and figure out the best thing to do if a similar situation arises for you in the future.

You're a good dude Roy. I knew you were just curious but I also know that there may be some folks waiting in the wings to pick apart the effort Markay made on getting to the meat. So, I figured I would try to answer the question by telling about the efforts that were made, as well as add a little humor so people (myself included) dont take themselves too seriously.

Dont know why I am defending the guy though-I drew the same tag and his bull made mine look like a baby when all was said and done.

And you're right-it is a good learning experience. Markay's dad is the one who stopped long enough to think, "what if this blood is from the entrance wound and if it is on this side of the trail that means the bull turned around and if he turned around maybe he went this way instead." Good lesson for me to stop and think things through rather than just start beating through the brush.
