East Canyon Summit Cow Elk tag

I have an East Canyon Summit cow elk tag. It is mostly made up of private property. My hunt runs until the end of Jan 2012. I never filled my deer tag this year due to only seeing small bucks. So the freezer is empty and I need advice to help fill my freezer. I don't have access to any property and I'm not sure where the winter range is in my boundaries. I've only hunted mule deer on public ground so I don't even no where to start.

My oldest son,(just turned 12) went deer hunting with me for the first time in October. I had opportunities to take small bucks but passed on them so they could get bigger. My son, just completed hunter safety, and I would love another opportunity to show my son the experience of filling a tag.

How do I find a way to get access to hunt?
Any help would be great.

Im not trying to start anything but this tag runs from October 8th thru the 30th and then again from November 19th thru January 31st. How much time have you spent up there? The elk really aren't that hard to find this time of year. They are pretty exposed in the mornings and evenings.

First off, I wanted to hunt for elk close to home so that I didn't have to travel too far. The economy has taken it's toll on me and my family and financially it's making it hard to even be able to get out as much as I'd like. Second, I put in for this tag on accident. It was my third choice and it wasn't until after I drew it, that I realized it was made up of mostly private land. After talking to friends and debating to surrender the tag, something told me to hold on to it. Due to the tag allowing such a long time to hunt, I figured I could work something out. I've been using as much resources as I can to try and figure something out. Calling Biologist, talking with people up there, looking at maps, Google earth. These are just some of the things I've been doing. But driving up there every day or week is not in my budget.

Like I said, I could have put meat in my freezer during the deer hunt and had my son experience a deer go down but I wasn't going to shoot young bucks. I'm trying to do what is right. My father was not a hunter and I didn't learn to hunt until my mid 20's. So I'm probably way behind most of you but I'm still going to hunt and I'm going to teach my kids to hunt too. Unlike me when I was a kid.

We have cow hunters until Jan 10 if you haven't harvested by then PM me and I will get you on our place.

That's a pretty generous offer for him.
If I were in his shoes I'd jump all over that.
You must be a stand-up guy.

My 2 kids have the tags for the East Canyon summit down to the West... either you need to get up there and chase the elk down or I need it to snow more so they come down a little lower.

Good luck and have fun.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-09-11 AT 04:47PM (MST)[p]My son and I have East Canyon Morgan tags. The elk are still way back in there due to the lack of snow. We need it to snow so they will come down. If anyone has any nuisance cow elk on their property in Morgan they want removed then let me know. Otherwise we will just keep on looking on the area we have access to.

I have the same tag east canyon morgan. Im waiting for the snow as well. Im planning on hunting the week after next.
