I have 4 points in Wyoming for a non-resident. I now have a problem with my foot and walk with a brace. I can still get around, but at a very slow pace. My goal is to try to draw a tag in 2012 where I have a decent chance of shooting a 260 plus bull. Can anyone please help me out or point me in the right direction. PM me and any help will be muchly appreciated. Thanks

With your physical problem are you talking about a DIY hunt or would you need to go with an outfitter to help you get around and cover lots of country easier (horseback, etc.)? Elk hunting, if you haven't done much of it before, is generally a lot of walking and glassing. Also, the terrain they live in is generally not real easy to cover with two good legs, especially after they start smelling humans invading their territory and head for the deep stuff. Then if you get one down the fun really begins---NOT! IMHO it sounds to me like it would be best for you to look into a guided hunt with a reputable outfitter and none of those hunts are cheap. If you can only do a DIY hunt, then it is almost imperative that you have a least one or maybe two people along that can share camp and help you out. Good luck!

Yes this would be a DIY and would have one or two in camp with me. I still can get around, but it is just so much slower than I'm used to. Yes I will get off the roads and back in a couple of miles. Ideas

See my reply to hunter and think seriously about hunting a unit in the Big Horns where it looks like you can draw with your 4PPs. I'm sure you can do a DIY if you have others with you to help. Good luck.

Look at drawing unit 62.

Very lil' wilderness and private ground plus it is one of those units in Wyo that a guy can harvest ---not very far from a trailhead nor a canyon bushwack up type deal.

Less than a 20% chance at a Grizzz sighting...wolves move thru and then are gone .....not a biggy issue.

But PLEASE!!! do not camp right at a freaking trailhead!! like some goofballs do.

Toss 62 into your unit mix----as you research your options.

Try this again. Is there any good cow elk hunts where you would not have to waste your points, but have a good chance of getting a cow?

Type 4 Cow tag as 2nd choice, no points used.
Type 6 Cow tag, 1st choice, no points used.

Download the demand indexes, pull out the felt pen, mark those that you can draw (left overs), then start whittling them down.

I'm doing this exact process right now but have additional criteria making it a little harder. There will be no "gimme" hunts for the 2nd choice and type 6 tags that we can draw easily. The residents and NR meat hunters have figured out over the years which units to draw. Many of the type 6 tags have been moved to small areas within the normal hunt unit, primarily for crop damage and to ease crowding. The type 4 that will be left over are left over for a reason.....

Go here and download the Elk reports for each region. You will get stats and the biologists reports on the hunt units within each region.
