Hello fellas. Ive been on MM before, just forgot my old screen name. Question for you. What would the going rate be for a landowner tag with a decent chance at shooting a bull? I'm new to elk hunting and any decent bull (5x5) would be just fine with me. When you buy a landowner tag does the price include property to hunt on? I know there are unit wide tags and private land tags as well. If I don't go bison hunting this year i'll be looking at giving elk a try. Any info would be helpful. Thanks guys.

It all depends on the unit the 16's in the gila will be $3500 to $4500 plus a nm lic. non res is $500+ to $766 some units will be less. I bought a unit 6a for $800 in 06 they wanted $1500 but they were running out of time. If you buy a ranch only tag you can only hunt the ranch the tag was issued to, if you buy a unit wide tag you can hunt the ranch that sold you the tag and any public land in that unit.

^ what he said. EXCEPT, on unit wide tags you can hunt ANY ranch in the unit that is signed up as unit wide LO tags. It's called the E Plus system. It's the dirty little secret NONE of the LO'S want us public land hunters to know about!!!!

Haha. Never knew that......Not that it matters, I'm not payin for any LO tag any time soon.

Anybody still have a link to that animated cartoon on "How it works in New Mexico"?

I should have worded that better...with a unit wide tag you can hunt public land and any ranch in that unit that has unit wide tags. When I had the 6a tag the ranch owner was crying all week about having to let other tag holders on his land.
