your probably tired of this subject but its crunch time for me, which scope would you guys buy leupold or nikon? they both have the same zoom and obj. the price is 259.00 for the leupold(wind river) 299.00 for the nikon, what do you think?

I think for the price range you are looking at it wont make a whole lot of difference. Under 500 dollars and you are getting a average scope period, regaurdless of the brand.

Im in the same situation and ended up getting a million peoples reviews on all the scopes in the 200-400 range and found that if they were winers they found something to complain about while the average person new they were buying an average scope and now its limits. I would say no matter what you get your going to have to deal with poor sharpnes and poor vision in the 50-60 zoom range and average perfomance as darkness approaches.

I have a bushnell trophy and it works as good as anything in that price range.

ok so its about 50/50, the leupold is cheeper, but now is not the time to be cheep. so if the nikon is a little better glass i would prefer that.

There is value in what these guys are telling you, but can I suggest a different route? I have heard some good things about the vortex brand. You get a lifetime transferrable warranty and some good optics for the price range you are looking at. Talk with Doug at Cameraland. He has show samples for $300 or under. Maybe this would be a better option for you. They are new scopes and you get the full warranty. Thought about them myself, but splurged for a little more expensive scope.

Good luck. Shane

Hilltop,
I have a Leupold I would sell you. Hardly used it. My wife surprised me with a Swaro. PM me if you're interested.
30inch

I have that exact Wind River, and it is a PIECE OF CRAP!!! I would not recommend buying one, infact, now that I have my Pentax, I'll sell you my Wind River for a bucket full of dirt.

This is my post

I've just pissed in my pants.......and nobody can do anything about it.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-13-07 AT 04:06PM (MST)[p]I recommended Nikon above and I own the Wind River. Nikon is lighter, clearer, and of good and durable construction. And, it comes with a good warranty.

I have a Nikon Sky and Earth 80mm on ebay right now, you just might get a heck of a deal. It was a very good scope, but not as good as the Vortex that I replaced it with.

>anybody know what it cost's to
>ship a buket full of
>dirt? can i send mud,
>its pretty wet out?

Huh?

WIND RIVER IS NOT MADE BY LEUPOLD, THEY JUST PUT THEIR NAME ON IT AND WARRENTY IT...

check out opticsplanet.net

they have pretty good deals on scopes. better than other places.

windriver is cheeeeeeeap I was outing mine on a tripod droped it on a small rock and the scope broke right in half... I bought the Nikon ... Nikon is alot better quility than the Wind river.

Hilltop, as others have stated call Doug at Cameraland he totally help me out last year with binos I got the Minox 10x53 and later this year I'll be contacting him about a spotter.
