MY DAD IS 70 AND CANT HIKE MUCH, JUST WONDERING IF THIS WOULD BE A GOOD HUNT FOR HIM OR WOULD I BE THROWING HIS POINTS AWAY. ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT. I WOULD LOVE TO CHAT WITH SOMEONE WHO WAS ON THIS HUNT LAST YEAR. PM'S WOULD BE GREAT

Do a search if you want to see how people did on the books last year. Its a rugged area.

I just re-read the first post. From my experience any public land muzzle hunt be it for elk or deer involves a lot of hiking, locating/stalking. I know some have killed animals at 300 yrds with their inline "primative weapon" muzzleloaders, but thats a heck of a shot even with a one power scope. In reality most people's max is 200 yards. Since that hunt is at the end of the rut that may lend to calling in a bull(less hiking), but a rifle hunt seems to be potentially a little easier for non hikers. Maybe a late season rifle hunting on a more road friendly unit. The books are steep and deep.

I went with my brother on his muzzy hunt down there this year. It was a blast, he killed a 330 bull but we hiked our butts off and spent a lot of time away from the roads. You can often spot elk from the roads, but getting to them is a different story.

In my opinion, it has more flat areas with elk in it than most of the other LE units I have been on. Yes, there is hiking involved, but it is a lot gentler than units like Beaver or Pahvant.

If scouted and planned right, it could be one of the better units for an older gentleman to hunt. It does have some rough areas, but those areas can be avoided.
