CO Unit # 122

Does anyone know anything about this unit? The outfitter I'm booked with just leased 2 ranches in #122 and I know I wont draw a rifle tag, but I could draw an archery tag. Just wondering if it is as good the outfitter says. He says" I'd rather bow hunt this ranch than rifle hunt his others" (104,105,106) He is leaving the option up to me but I need decide by next friday. Thanks in advance, Jon

122 can hold some great bucks, but it is mostly agricultural and CRP. Deer numbers aren't as high as 104 or 105. If the outfitter has just leased these properties then he has no history for you to go on. He might be just trying to book open slots. Try to see if he can come up with a history on the ranch (bucks killed) and check his references. It would have to be dang good to be better than 104,105.

Zekers, I've hunted with this guy before so I know he is legit, I was curious about 122 because according to him the new ranches total 18000 acres and it has only been hunted by the owners and they have taken some big deer (mulies & whitetails)I'm still undecided because I have my choice of LO tag on his 104 - 105 ranches or draw a archery tag for 122. The CO website says it took 5pts to draw early rifle & 11pts for late rifle in 06 for a NR so that tells me something also. I guess I'll keep racking my head for a few days!!!

I drew this rifle tag in 2006, took a 28" buck.
If your outfitter has the right ranchs leased you will do good, if not you will have a tough time getting a buck.

Did your outfitter mention the possibility of there being a lot of winter killed deer by the major snowstorms that hit unit 122 and the other units south and along the kansas border in December? He should of. A lot of that snow is still drifted 5-10 feet high and covering most of the food. The deer are having a hard time surviving right now. Winterkill numbers will be significant. I usually hunt 122 but am considering other options this year.

Who's ranch did he lease and I could tell you what to expect?

COwhitey He did mention about the winterkill, he said that he has found 6 dead bucks on his 105 - 106 ranches already.
I'll try to find out which ranch it is in 122
