Archery Elk

Ok I just wanted to show you guys the elk that I shot in 2009. Its not very big but it is unique. The one antler grows straight forward instead of up. Any ideas on why this happened? Would he have been like that permanately? If the antler had been straight with the pedicle he couldnt have eaten once his antler grew out.

I've seen pictures of a few of these. I had sheds from a bull two years in a row and it was the same both years. I'm not sure if it is a defect or like a broken antler when he was young. Maybe he got kicked as a calf or something? Anyway, I would say it is permanent.

When the bull was a spike the pedical was small in diameter and broke it healed with the spike hanging straight off of it's head and grew that way from there on out I have taken a few hunters that this has happened and seen a lot more like this.
