I have a question: How many out there have used booking agents? How have your experiences been? What is good/bad about using?

I have once, turned out the agent didn't know a thing about the guide except what he was told, turned out to be a terrible hunt...I did score but not a quality operatiopn by any means

I've used several. One was one of the worst guided hunts I've ever ben on. Another the Booking agent lied as to availability of hunt times and hunt was not successful. Another (to Africa) was the one of the best hunts I have been on. Moral, buyer beware.

from the "Heartland of Wyoming"

I booked with Steve through Steve's Outdoor Adventures for 2008 muley's. I've been pleased with the experience so far with excellent communication and all references have been checked out. The hunt I'm booked on the actual booking agent goes on; at least every other year. TV shows have been filmed on this place and I can't wait. I believe Steve is an honest agent and will shoot you straight. He told me up front what to expect and it wasn't unreasonable. We'll see how it all ends up in 08.

I used Shoshone Wilderness, owned by John Andre out of MT for an Archery elk hunt, It was as advertised, we went two years in a row and wound up 50%. I would recommend him.

I used one Booking agent from oregon twice one year, first to book a hunt in OR for rifle elk for myself and my father. The contract said the tags were garanteed. After he recieved the down payment He said we have to put in the draw. We didn't draw and it took almost two years to get my deposit back as the tags were not guarenteed as the caontract said. He said the F&G changed the rules. The said no but I had to contact OR marine and somthing to eventually get my money from him.

The second (same agent)I booked a archery hunt with a guide in NM whom he said was very good he had used many times ETC. Well when I got there The guide said we'll hunt hard for the next five days. I told him this was a ten day hunt with extra days $150/day. He told me he doesn't sell ten day hunts. After looking at my contract with the booking agent He said he'd honor it. And I did hunt 11 days unsucessful and had a great time. It turned out the outfitter bent over to make it a good hunt although he didn't get paid as of the time of the hunt. The outfitter felt both of us had been taken for a ride but wanted to be the honorable outfitter he was. I was the first client he ever bookerd with him.

The outfitter said he had never met him but was told for 10% he could sell as many hunts as the outfitter could provide. The outfitter was bringing his son into the business and wanted to grow it.

Beware! Alot of agents are salesmen and know nothing about the outfitter. Especially some from "oregon"

I've used www.lemkesoutdoorconnection.com & i think Chris is reputable. I typically book my own hunts but decided to book a Montana mule deer hunt with Chris & everything was as promissed. I've spoken to Steve at Steve's Outdoor Adventures along with Wes Hixon concerning an African hunt. I wouldn't hesitate to book with any of 3 but i would also check references even if using a booking agent.
