Just got done talking with the outfitter I will be applying with and found out that this year Non-residents will only be able to apply for the restricted guide draw for deer or the general draw for deer, not both as in past years.

Good luck to all in the draws this year.

Nails.

You can be sure that I am not one of the wealthy of which you speak. The reason I am choosing an outfitter is to maximize my chances of having an all-around quality hunt.

Nails, There is no problem with you using a guide for a quality hunt. There are good guides out there. I hope you have a great hunt and are succesful.

The issue is the special draw takes away tags for people that choose not to use a guide. The system was/is being used as a loop hole. You have people double dipping. That favors the rich and the charge a fee to apply for you guys.

I sure wish they would take the second step and get rid of it all together. The good guides will still get business every year.

There were people applying in the guide draw just to get an extra point going into the regular draw, applying as a party of four for a hunt with one tag. It is not fair to subsidize the guides at the expense of pulling tags out of the regular draw. At least the cheaters just going for the extra point will be stopped now. I bet draw odds get really good in the guide draw.

Elmer, I think you have it all wrong. Years ago, you could get an extra point for the guide draw and one for the regular draw; but that loophole was closed many years ago. I'm pretty darned sure you only get a single point per year now, no matter what.

That said, I like this change. It'll help both draws.

This the first year you can't get two points. I think it is a good thing they stopped it, even if it was helping me. It was not fair. I also understand why people would want to end the outfitter draw too. Then there is the land owner tag and the price keeps going up!

You absolutely, positively could not get 2 bonus points in the draw. You also could not use the bonus point you got from the restricted drawing (the first) in the regular draw (second). You were however, able to apply twice, didn't matter much as the odds are much lower in the second drawing than in the first anyway, for most units. Most states have some form of outfitter/landowner preference whether it is fair or not can be debated for the rest of our lifetimes.

For a short time, you could get three points in a year, one for the guide, one for the regular, and one for the leftover. Up until this year, you could apply in the guide draw, get the point, and have one more point going into the regular draw. You would not accumluate the extra point for following years. One point per year carryover was the limit. But this extra point, with the squaring, going in to the regular draw did get some to apply in the guide draw......

Last year was the first year I applied for NV. We tried the outfitter draw first and were unsuccessful. We then applied for the general big game draw and we each had 1 bonus pt. I will check and see if I now have 2 when we apply this year.
