Youth Elk Hunt

My son will be 12 on August 31st, and can apply for the youth general any bull elk. I am having trouble finding which units this applies to. I assume it is the same as the normal general season elk hunts.
Any help would be appreciated.

The Utah youth elk hunt applies to only the general season units, but is held a week prior to the general opener. This is a great opportunity for your youth to get out and hear some bugling elk. They also have a late season hunt for the youth as well. Good luck........!

They can be tough to draw . My oldest son drew one of those tags the first year the program started. He turned 15 that year and shot a very nice 6 x 6 bull. My other two kids put in every year and never drew a tag for the youth hunt. They are now to old to put in any more. So not a easy tag to draw out on . I am not sure what the odds are for that tag ?

No its Only On any bull units For The early and its a special unit for the late

It used to be that they had be 14yrs old for that tag. Im not sure if that is still the case? That might haved changed?

12 year olds can put in for the youth any bull hunt. Just not the LE or OIL hunts. Good luck on drawing. Some of the best hunts I have been on our those with the youth.

Putting my lil cuz in for the youth hope he strikes gold he would have 3 guides. But wont let him shoot anything bigger then a spike cant let him show me up haha at 12 years old when im 28 :) had a chance at 6 other bulls either missed the shot was not ready or the biggest bull i seen running in a open area and totally froze up probably a 320 ish bull was sick to my guts nice bull for a any bull unit.

Good question. I did alittle bit of looking to get some odds and other info but couldn't find it. This will be my sons first year hunting(12 yrs old) and I put him in for this hunt and was wanting information too. I've had a couple offers from friends to guide and/or call. So how many tags are given out for the early hunt?

Last year there was 1 tag for every 16 kids. So this year just depends how many kids drop off and how many new 12 year olds come into it. Im hoping my lil cuz gets one good luck would be a hunt of a lifetime to see there face getting close to screaming bulls :)

Youth early hunt has 270 resident tags and 30 non resident tags hunt goes a week.

Youth late hunt has 13 resident tags and 2 non resident tags hunt goes a month and a half.

Ya, I found the stats on the dwr website. I'm hoping my son draws this one cuz I want to hear some screaming bulls! Seeing them up close sounds awesome too!

Stop putting them in, you guys are killing my odds! :)
Just kidding, but I do hope that if one of your guys boys draw it that you will post up a story. I just hope that I draw it before I'm 18.

Thanks for the help guys. I will get him put in. We usually hunt the Fishlake area, but will try this just to give him a chance. It might be the only chance my family has to hunt big bulls for a long time!

Has success rates been really high on this hunt? I hope my boy draws. Good luck to all.

Great hunt for a NR to apply their son in. Back when my son drew it was a 1-3 chance to draw. He drew the second year.

We had a great time, were into bugling bulls most of the time. he passed a spike the first day, never had a clear shot after that although we had bulls in our laps several times.
