Surprised

I thought I had 12 points for LE elk in Utah, but getting online to start my application I was pleasantly surprised to find that I have 13 points. Looking at Fishlake's odds last year I'd be a lock on my tag I've been longing to draw. For the last month I've swayed back and forth with what I should do for the draw, but with being in grad school I THINK I've convinced myself to just put in for a point. Please someone fortify my decision lol.

If the season coincides with your fall semester, DO NOT apply for anything else than a point! I had just a regular gen. tag last season and I could not make time to get out for a weekend being just an undergrad!

It took you over a decade to get your points, save them and make it a graduation present for when you are done.

I dont know how dry it is up in the Fishlake, but the way this winter is shaping up there may be a lack in horn growth this season. Some AZ point holders are re-thinking their apps this year because of the lack of moisture. Finish the school.

Thanks Ace.
That's a good point with the winter and antler growth. Fishlake is a pretty wet place, but its winter has been different this year as well. At 9,000 feet the lake hasn't even froze enough for safe ice throughout the lake.

Gonna have to exercise more patients. Put in for points, hopefully find an in state job when I'm done, draw the premium tag and give it heck.

GLEDEASY- I'll tell you that you are doing the right thing by going after a point. I too am in grad school, have a 21 month old, and a wife that is currently 7 months prego. I will have 9 entries for the Books this year, and have a pretty decent chance to draw a tag. I have decided that I will be buying a point as I want my whole family there with me when I harvest my trophy buck... And I want the necessary amount of time to scout well, and school can put a damper on that.

I wouldn't want to plan on taking a 2 year old, and a 6 month old out to the Books for 9 days next Oct. It's a hard choice, but it looks like a point for me this year, and next year I'll be a lock...

I heard a ice fisher men went threw the ice at Fish lake a couple of weeks ago. They went ot in the morning all was ok. On the way back he and his machine went threw the ice.

Browning, congrats with the new comer on the way. It definitely is hard to do a point when you know you could probably draw the tag. That's something I hadn't though about was that my son will be about 3 when I'm done with school. It would be exciting to see him get excited about a bull.

BigJ, do you know if the guy was ok? I heard that he will have to recover the snowmobile? I would hate to ever fall through the ice, but if I had to pick one that I would never want to fall through it would be Fishlake. That lake is big and deep!

Oh come on!! The sooner you draw the sooner you get to kill a big old stinky!! School is not that important right? LOL

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-12 AT 09:39AM (MST)[p]horncrzy, you might have a point there. You gonna be up at the expo? On a side note it's looking to be an early spring, will have to go catch that 40+ pounder that's lurking the shadows.

Where are you going to be looking for that 40+ pounder ? We hope to start looking for one come May. With the way the weather has been ,should be no ice on the lake.

I hear Widgeon Bay on the north is crowded with 40 pounders :) Ice off in the first of May should be a real possibility unless something really changes.

No....not gonna be able to make it this year. Babysitting a big buck for the chance at his horns lol. Those 40's are in there!! Just gonna be a matter of time till we snag into one. My boat is already getting the itch lol!!!
