LAST EDITED ON Mar-01-07 AT 05:42PM (MST)[p]Looks like there will be 1000 additional deer tags in the NE unit this year, sorry bob. (yes, I know that I misspelled "bad")
Andy
If they have a 93 or 97,000 tag cap(cant remeber witch) on all genral season deer where did they pull these tags from????
And why are they doing this, (other than to make more $$$$$) What benefit dose it have on the herds, ohh yes I forgot they dont care about deer in utah, they have to keep there elk herds going good dont they...
F|__|K'N TARDS.
I live about 20 miles out side of Vernal, and I dont see how there is a buck standing on some of them mountains after the seasons are over....
AFTER THE PRESSURE THESE MOUNTAINS GET ITS A MIRACLE ANYTHINGS LEFT!!!
OH BUT THE FRICKEN OPPORTUNITY!!!
THATS ALL WE NEED IS A 1000 MORE TARDS WITH NO OTHER OPTIONS LEFT OTHER THAN THE LAND OF THE Nomad!!!
I SUPPOSE WHEN WE ONLY HAVE 200 DEER LEFT WE'LL STILL HAVE THE ALL MIGHTY CAP OF 97,000 PERMITS!!!
WTF???
WTF???
WTF???
THE ONLY bobcat THINKING THERES A 1000 MORE PERMITS BUT THERE SURE AS HELL AIN'T GONNA BE A 1000 EXTRA Nomads AROUND WITH MILK ON THEIR LIPS,DID THEY EVER THINK OF THAT???
Come on now. Give them a break. They want 15 bucks per 100 does. They are at 16 bucks per 100 does. So you better kill all the extra bucks and get it back down to the 15 bucks per 100 does.
You sure don't want any extra bucks running around. That would be crazy.
In their buck to doe ratios do they count any buck or only mature bucks?
How many of you NE region hunters believe that there are more than 10 bucks per 100 does SPEAK UP???? I sure don't. Maybe they need to kill a few more does to get the numbers in line....
LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-07 AT 06:25PM (MST)[p]or get more bucks...... Last year was my first year hunting N.E. and to be honest we saw quite a few deer. Only a couple mature bucks but it was better than the southern area I have hunted for the past 20 years. The last year we hunted southern region there were so many hunters it was ridiculous. We saw some good bucks on the N.E. and had our fair share of chances, of course that was on the bow and muzzleloader hunts though. I love the locals, they piled 10-20 people in truck bed and road hunted.WOW!!
I lucked out to be honest with you. We found a canyon on the 2nd day of the archery hunt that had a couple decent bucks in it. I don't know if I should have called them mature though. I don't think there is a mature buck that you can hunt on public land during the general season in Utah at all....
Looking at my first post it sounds a bit more harsh than intended. I think that Utah's deer management sucks, not the individuals.
MortgageMan, I'm glad you found a few "decent" bucks to hunt. There's always going to be a handful of good bucks in every unit regardless of our "sucky" deer management. It amazes me that the deer do as well as they do with all of the abuse.
As far as deer numbers I'd guess that the overall numbers are 70%-80% of what the DWR claims and buck to doe ratios around Heber "might" be 10 bucks to 100 does.
Dont know about the South Slope, but the North Slope didnt have a whole bunch of bucks last year, saw 2 during scouting trips (3x4 and a forky) and during the season only saw 1 during the first week of archery... and that one ( a forky also)was running away from 4 guys in a jeep trying to catch-up with him..
I was after that elusive North Slope Elk and never saw anouther deer after the first week... buck or doe.
LAST I HEARD AFTER THEY PASSED YOU THEY STARTED SHOOTING AT THE Nomad,THEY RUN OUT OF BULLETS & HAD TO LASOO HIM AND THEN DRAG HIM BACK ONTO THE UTAH SIDE!!!
What a freaking joke!! Ive hunted the NE region the last couple of years, and have seen 10 bucks, and only 1 was worth shooting. I think the tags in the NE need to be reduced, not increased. Man the DWR is making a huge mistake!
That buck was making a bee line for Flaming Gorge res. hoping that they didn't have a boat to continue chasing him.. I guess he thought if he made it into Wyoming he may be safe..
Im actually sticking with the NE unit again this year. I was going to switch and hunt my buddy's private land in the SE Unit, but my father in law talked me into hunting with him again this year. He has a friend with some mules that is going to pack us in, so I figured I'd give it a shot. The only positive is that Im not hunting the same spot in NE that I did last year.
