What units do you recommend for 2 hunters with 11 and 14 non resident preference points. We are 58 and 60 years old in fair to good shape. looking for a drop camp hunt or semi guided hunt. We have harvested several deer and elk 15 to 30 years ago. What guides do recommend this type of hunt?
Thanks, Tony

You are kind of in never never land - you are way behind the premium units 2,201,10,and 61 early will be hard to catch - you could possibly draw unit 76 1st rifle - I know that is an excellent archery and muzzleloader hunt for average bulls - not sure when the migrate out though. It is pretty high country and you probably would want horses if you have to get way up. There are some reasonable outfitters I believe - search unit 76 elk and I think there is a Frazier and a couple others that operate there.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-12 AT 06:32PM (MST)[p]I assume you know that if you apply as a group, you will go in at 11 points. Colorado does not point average and a group goes in as the one with the least points.

Would also help if you stated which season you want to put in for: archery, muzzleloading, rifle

Have you used this link: http://monstermuleys.hunterstrailhead.com/huntsearch.php?ST=CO

put in elk, nonresident and 11 points, but not the unit or weapon, and it will give you all the units and how many points

Yes look into the odds of every good unit and see which ones you can draw with 11 pts, Then start looking for infor. on the ones that peak your interest.

I suggest you go on two hunts. Use the 14 points and one guy help the other.

Then you get a chance to learn and decide if the other guy wants to burn the points in that same place. The next year or several years in the future.

This is a good idea if you decide not to use a guide of course.

If you use a guide, then I think you just roll the dice (on both guys) or ask if the other hunter can go along.

Just a thought.
