Just wondering what the terrain is like (during the 3rd and 4th season), being that close to Glenwood Sprigs (is it near the ski slopes)? Is there a lot of private ground? Not looking for honey holes, just curious about the size potential for a decent buck and what type of pressure to expect?

Thanks,
Fuzzy

The unit is mostly National Forest (White River). If you can find access to the BLM land north of Glenwood it might be pretty good in the 3rd and 4th season. I've only bowhunted it and I went way up high so my experience in 34 is of limited value regarding the later hunts.

The stuff close to Glenwood is treacherous country, but if you get off at the Dotsero exit and then head west at Deep Creek Canyon you'll get into some nice oakbrush and sage country that is a mixture of steep hillsides and big benches.

I thought it was a decent area to hunt if you plan on camping out. I found deer, elk, bear, and turkey sign about everywhere I went. I'm planning on making it my "back up" unit when I'm in-between drawing better tags.

The success rate is roughly 25% for rifle buck hunters.
