Now the application time is up. How many of you picked Boulder Archery and how many points you had. just wondering if i have a chance to draw that tag with 10 points.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-05-12 AT 06:06PM (MST)[p]I don't know if you will get an adequate sample from MM to determine that but i would guess that 150 people applied give or take 10 and you have a 10-15% chance to draw. But that's just an educated guess and a guess is all it is....:) But rest assured, you are getting closer every day to drawing that tag so be careful out there.

Well I didn't apply for that hunt but looking at the draw history and results on www.biggamedrawodds.com, it looks like you will still have enough people above you to take care of all the guaranteed draws. You may get lucky and draw one of the 10 or so tags for the remaining 120 or so people. That's my guess anyway. You are getting close though. Good Luck!

Are we talking the Plateau-Boulder Kaiporwitz unit? Cause I have 10 pts and put in banking on drawing the tag. Draw odds looks like 100% chance with 11 pts. Am I missing something? Sounds like it.

Ya. You have to look at the draw odds as what level you were at last year. So if you have ten points currently, then you would have had 9 points in last years draw (along with 11 other people who didn't draw with 9 points last year). There were 5 people with ten points last year that didn't draw so they would be in great shape this year assuming a bunch of people with 11+ points won't be bouncing over from other units. I hope that makes sense.

So with about 9 guaranteed bonus point tags, I will assume that there will be 5 or 6 in the 11 point level who draw leaving 4 tags for the 9 point level. I would still guess that a few people with 11+ points will bounce over to this unit as past year draw odds indicate so you will need to get one of the random 10 tags distributed to the rest. Remember this is my estimation. Anything could happen.....

I am one of the guy jumping over to boulder i now have 12 points
so i should draw but you never no if i do draw and cant find a bull i like i will just turn in the tag and wait till 2013 and do it again

Buddy of mine drew it last year with 10 so yes you have a chance, and a pretty good chance, just not guaranteed...he also killed a hell of a bull with his bow!!

After the draw results are out, how long do you have to turn in a tag if you can't use it? Just wondering.

Billy :

I know the legal timetable of when tags can be turned in, but also understand that if the first hunter waits until the last possible moment to turn the tag back in, the second hunter is shorted considerably on scouting time and very possibly enjoyment of the experience.

Understanding that in life there is often a legal and a what is right decision to be made, and that these very often don't match up.

Since you have put your strategy on the table. I would be interested to know when you will consider your scouting complete but unsuccessful, thus allowing someone else to obtain the tag.

I believe you can turn you tag back up to 30 days before the hunt starts and get all but 25 dollars back. after that you are out all your money.

Billy,

Finding big bulls before the rut is very tough on boulder. so odds are you will be turning your tag back with your strategy. its a fun hunt
