Looks like I'm gonna burn my pts on this hunt this year.
I'm not sure what the herd is gonna be like in a few years so I want to take a crack at em now.

Would like to talk to some one who has hunted it in the last few years. It's in my backyard so I plan on spending some time in there this summer ~ willing to trade info.

Thanks ~ Jason

I've only moved from Cali a year ago but isn't it X-7b...

Verdi peak is all i know...

Hey Jason whats up man. I think U should think long and hard about burning max points on that hunt unless U know where a good one is at. I had some friends that had the tag last year and spent quite a bit of time up there and they told me the best buck they saw was a small 24 inch 4 point. Then when the hunt was on they said they saw alot of does but had a heck of a time just to find a forken horn to look at. These guys are good hunters too. If i had lots of time to scout i would look real hard at 5a or 5b. Not very many deer but if U found a good one and sat on him U might just do real good. I know its long odds for the Doyle muzz hunt but its also in your back yard too. I have not seen a big buck come out of 7b in quite a few years. If U scout your but off U might just find a good one though. I think i would not give up on those points as of right now, U still are in the drivers seat. Hey if U send for the Garden I will even take U up there myself. I know its no where near the unit it used to be but it still is the only place i have seen bucks that will break 200inches in Cali. I have never had the tag but guided guys on 3 hunts in there. Just a thought.

I was told my point were still good so I'm gonna apply for ahhhhh well I'll send you a P.M dude...

LAST EDITED ON Mar-09-07 AT 10:49PM (MST)[p]My son and my friends daughter both drew X7b junior hunts last year. His 12 year old daughter took a nice 3X3 for her first ever deer. I have pics of it posted on here somewhere. My son ended up shooting a doe.(either sex tags for juniors in case anyone was wondering) We scouted for about 5 days total before the hunt. I was not impressed with the herd last year. One of the main problems was the warm weather. Every dirt bike rider, hiker, tree hugger, Quad rider, horse back rider, and camper in the state was up there during the season. I agree with what was said earlier. If I had max points I would be looking at a differnt hunt. X-5A, X-5B, Goodale, ext. I hunt X-1 almost every year. It is a much easier draw and if they were giving away tags I would take take a X-1 tag over a X-7B tag every time. Anyway just my opinion for what it is worth.

Jason,

Aaron is right. My buddy drew this tag last year and I helped him scout and hunt the unit. It was a pretty warm season. We did not see much at all but did talk to a local that spotted what he said was a large 4x4 alond the north end of the unit along Henness Road. It was at night when the buck was spotted and near private (not sure what to believe). I did see a post on this sight where a guy took a nice buck the weekend we were not able to hunt. I guess with any unit in Cali you need to hunt smarter and harder than the next guy if you want to be successful. Personally I would try Dolye Muzz, Round Valley and of course the best unit in the state Goodale. Much tougher odds but probably much better quality. Good Luck!

Jeff
