I'VE GOT A REAL SPEEDING PROBLEM,I'VE HAD IT FOR YEARS!!!

YOU MIGHT SAY I LIKE TO DRIVE!!!

IT DON'T REALLY MAKE ME ANY BETTER THAN DeerKing,IF SOMETHING HAPPENED EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T MY FAULT & I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE OTHER DRIVER/PERSON & I ENDED UP HURTING/KILLING SOMEBODY IT WOULD BE A BAD SITUATION & EVERYBODY WOULD SAY:THAT SOB'ING bobcat WAS SPEEDING AGAIN & IF HE HADN'T OF BEEN SPEEDING THE ACCIDENT WOULDN'T OF HAPPENED!!!

I'll agree with you here, but if it's a constant thing and someone keeps on poaching, then hell yeah...I'm throwing him or her in the ditch.

And of course I've broken the law. Who hasn't done a little speeding? Why, just the other day I made it out to Salt Lake from my house in just a little over 2 1/2 hrs. I was hauling down Daniels and Parley's. And, I've driven when I was 3 sheets to the wind before too. Dumbass decision.

with you completely.

I've Personally done some things here in Texas that I
Cring, looking back on it.
When I was a younger man, I did some stuff that they should
have banned me from gun's, beer, women, car's, whiskey,
matches, phones, fishing equipment, and condoms.

Well I guess I will be the first to respond to your lenghtly post. First I must admit I am somewhat confused by what you may or may not have been saying. I will try to summarize my take of what you wrote. I think you were saying that we sholud not be to quick to render harsh judgement on DK because we all break the law and it is a matter of your particular perspective whether you believe the lawbreaker did anything really bad. I suppose in the abstract I can accept some of your premise. However I believe there are certain laws and the egregiousness of the conduct which should be recognized by all to be completely unacceptable. I do not accept the notion that speeding on a highway, is on the same level as what DK engaged in. I suppose speeding on a crowded city steet might rise to the same level of egregiousness. The fact is the manner in which certain laws are broken should be recognized by all as unacceptable period!

An example, look at baseball, sure it has lots of rules that can be broken without too much hoopla. However YOU NEVER AS A PLAYER OR MANAGER BET ON BASEBALL! Well in huting it is unacceptable to engage in repeated and deliberate poaching activities. There was no mistake involved in the DK situation, he knew exactly what he was doing. In addtion he fraudulently convinced the game and fish to give him back points for bear hunting because someone else was hunting in his area of choice. No, I hope the hunting community agrees that the OFFENSES DK deliberately engaged in are UNACCEPTABLE. So yes the hunting community should not be chastised because it is quick to make judgement and condem anyone who engages in such willful criminal conduct. In fact I for one applaud my fellow hunters for openly and quickly making it undeniably clear that such conduct is reprehensible. That is my take.

Oh, in response to your question, yes I have broken the law, spedding, switching lanes without using by blinker, etc. However I simply do not believe that has anything to do with the DK situation.
 
I've broken the law a few times. Back in my younger days I did some good ole' country boy red neckin' hell raisin'. I got arrested for a felony for stealing a Ronald McDonald statue. The cops didn't want to arrest me and my buddy and even gave us a chance to run and get away. We told them that we were too drunk to run. They took us to the cop hang out in the woods and made fun of us and joked around and called us Hamburglars. We had a good time before they took us to jail. But the fact of the matter is that we were in the wrong and we paid for it and it still haunts me to this day every time I try to buy a firearm. It's been 20 years since that occurance. Justifiably I still pay for it and I agree with the punishment. And I must admit that I got away with many other pranks before I ever got caught. How many people have you ever heard say, "I don't know how I got home last night."? I can't count the times I've heard people say that one. Well each and every one of them drove home! Drunker than sh$t! Deerking is gonna pay for this for the rest of his life and justifiably so. He's accepted that which he has no choice. And I don't mind throwing a stone every now and then, but we all live in a glass house and Lord knows I've got a few broken windows in it, ha ha. So go ahead and point a finger, throw your stones, gouge with your sticks because we are all hyprocrites and all deserve it. Some more than others but no one is without sin. Just my opinion. fat "banty' rooster.
 
I've broke the law lots. When caught I don't deny it, I don't try to defend it. When others do it, I don't defend them either. When my family does wrong, I see thatlook at them as some kind of different, because they're mine... I don't throw em in the ditch. I tend to throw everyone else in the ditch.

That's the deal cat. When I screw the pooch, and I do, I'm wrong and I don't try to make less of it. When it's someone I know or I don't, I treat it the same way and i don't defend it/them. Seems if we feel people all deserve 2nd/3rd chances, atonement what have you then we can't be selective about who and when. One poacher doesn't get hung and another get an intervention and support group.

Last, there's a big damn difference between a commercial poacher and DK. The guy who clips as many marketable deer on winter range etc, bear gauls, velvet elk etc so that he can SELL that stuff and his primary motive is profit is a different beast than the guy who takes one a year and does it wrong out of pride or some other reason. Some guys poach a doe or a spike for meat are they the same as the guy taking 5 sheep to sell?

We all screw the pooch. This is just the wrong place to seek poaching forgiveness. Kinda like asking a sierra club message board to give forgiveness for poaching old growth red cedar in CA, they'd hang him in their community. In the end the Cedar, the deer or any other resource is just a garden variety property crime and there's a big damn difference between pro criminals and guys that make a bad decision or two.

When DUI's and vehic homiciders drive in a year it's hard to explain poachers getting jail. DK got slammed. Was it over the top? Eh, dunno. Is he now a leper? Do we hang an albatross on him? In this little micro world of MM probably but MM is zit on the elephant of life and worrying about status here as a measure of anything is pert stupid.

Didn't want to post on the big DK thread either since, I broke the law right here in MM-ville just the other night & posted a illegal photo, lesson learned.
Surprisingly before that point in my life, I had never broke a single law, or made a 1 damn mistake. Kind of surprised you didn't know that. Guess others ain't as smart as me neither. If you don't believe me go to the on line dictionary Wikipedia look up the term "model citizen" you'll find a picture of me.

These were kids, not some 46 year old professional headhunter. And you figured we should gutshoot them. Hmmmm, why the change of heart? Just because DK was known here in MMland shouldn't give him a freepass from the wrath of the legendary bobcatbess tuneup should it????
 
Sure we have all broken some laws. We all speed some but Bobcat you need to slow down a little. I've taken a few extra fish and birds when I was young but poaching trophy deer is way beyond the limit for me. With the age and experience of DK this puts him just below comercial poachers in my book. I don't think you can compare this to minor law breaking. Hopefully others will learn from what all of us think about it.

I was once arrested for petty theft. When I was 15 years old I tried to steal an ACDC cassette tape, ironically it was "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". So what does that have to do with anything? Nothing, that's what. Has no relevance whatsoever.

I'd love to see a picture of one of your many pieces of pistons, but I gotta tell you, I'm not gonna hold my breath because I think that you are all talk.

So now that I've answered your questions, you answer mine. Do you think that someone should trash your rig just because you choose to break the law in it repeatedly, or are you gonna be a hypocrit about that one too?

I actually thought DK was one until all this $hit hit the fan. When it comes to Monster Muleys I'd say he's a fallen angel now ain't he? Not worthy of gutshooting though. But those kids that were trying to live up to the houndogger lifestyle deserve that don't they? If you take pics of pet monster bucks in a Park and shoot monster bucks in and out of season, you must be a good guy, but if you are a kid that pokes a sow out of a tree you are scum right and deserve to be hung high from the nearest tree.
Bess I don't speed. I have a wife and kids that look forward to me comin home everynight. And I'm sure there are others out there that have families too that I'd hate to tear apart all because I was in a hurry. Maybe you should slow down and get a hold of that speed thing cause speed does indeed kill. And sometimes it just doesn't kill the bastard behind the wheel. In this country if you are an aggressive driver who has multiple driving infractions they take away your driver's licence. Sounds much like what happened to DK eh?

BCBOY...I somewhat agree with you, BUT, not sure about BC. but here in Alberta when you are a so called aggressive driver and have had multiple driving and alcohol infractions, and than you run a stop sign and kill someones 19 year old daughter and 6 month old grandson, totally destroys someones family and marriage, they will through the book at you, ha ha ha
2000 dollar fine and a 3 month driving suspension. what a joke our legal system is.

The fact that I THINK of them as the good seeds done wrong one time, doesn't mean I have to open my trap and say so to others to defend them. I can just think it. I know every single guy/gal that's screwed up big time has people doing the same and they just piss me off when it's the reverse! I don't defend when I screw up or when it's my bud even when it pains me to see them suffer.

Incessantly pointing out that "we all do" as reason to lay off someone you like, while suggesting we gut shoot some unknown fool (who has friends saying we lay off him cause he's a good guy!!) is what a hypocrite does. I speed, occasionally. I've done worse. My F-ups aren't evidence that some other guy deserves a break. What it's evidence of is that I deserve WORSE! Get it? When you ask folks to say if they've broke the law, it doesn't mean they should think DK deserves less, it means they should admit they deserve WORSE, they should lie with him so to speak. Your whole argument isn't that we should lay off but that we all need more hard and serious slams in the chops.

See if you look at it this way, you see that the lesson is that we should avoid bad behavior because we all deserve the consequences coming to us instead of, we should all lay off judgment. Cause if we should all just lay off judgment, there'll be no standards in a damn hurry.

I just wanted to point out something with an example. Recently I decided to get a harvest objective tag for cougars. I have been out several times with "houndsmen" and we are yet to tree a cat. So I am at lunch with my wife and I guy I know starts talking hunting and he tells me about a kid who had been hunting an area and treeing several cats and my friend recommended I try that area. Without thinking we loaded some dogs and headed out. Luckily we never cut a track or let the dogs loose because that night I was reading up on the boundries and the quotas for harvest objective and I realized we had been in a draw area. I will tell you right now if we had seen a cougar I would have shot it so fast my head would have spun and I would have taken it to the fish and game and told them exactly where I shot because I had NO IDEA that we were in the wrong. Know lets say that I did just that...I would probably be facing 5 years no hunting a fine of some sort etc. Does the fish and game care that I was ignorant of the boundry or that it was an honest mistake. No probably not! They expect us to read the proclamation and follow it. If we don't they have the right to nail us and I totally agree with that.
WE ALL have made mistakes on some level with hunting and fishing whether we knew it or not. I am not defending DK at all because I agree with his punishment (although I think 15 years would be more reasonable considering the bear thing didn't sound like a 5 year crime to me.) but we need to lay off the guy because if he loves hunting like most of us then his punishment is plenty harsh. I bet MANY if not all MM memebers have been in a situation where if a fish cop were present they would have been nervous about something or other. In fact if there is ONE person out there that can HONESTLY say they would never have been nervous LET HIM/HER SPEAK NOW!

THE ONLY BOWHUNTER WISHING SOMEONE COULD TELL ME WHERE THE H*** TO FIND A FRESH COUGAR TRACK IN THIS MELTING SNOW! SERIOUSLY TELL ME--AFTER SEVERAL 3-4 HOUR DRIVES INTO (LEGITIMATE) HARVEST OBJECTIVE AREAS THIS KITTY HUNTING IS STARTING TO SEEM A LITTLE MORE SPORTSMANLIKE THAN I EXPECTED!

Yes if manilla utah is the Basin I have been there 3 times. No luck yet. I think the cats are getting to be a lot fewer in numbers these days. But eventually I will find one. I was told the harvest objectives were started when the cougars started killing sheep. Those are big $ to the Game and fish, and they got pissed. Don't know if I agree with the numbers they are killing or not but I sure would like to get one while I can still do it over the counter. The guy up by manilla is a brother of my friend and he is a great houndsman but we can't find a fresh track anywhere. It is tough huntin'
 
Take a little road trip down to the Az. strip and you can save some deer while your at it.
 
Actually, I'm tickled that Colorado is breaking it off in this guys a$$. Might make the next headhunter think twice. He'll probably continue to poach, but if he gets caught again, it'll be even worse.

I dont have very many posts but this should only reflect that I dont spend all my time behind a computer. I will ask this...Did Deerking plead guilty only because he knew that in front of a jury of his peers he would have faced a far worse outcome?
If a person is grossly speeding over the speed limit and hits my family and kills all my family then I would give them a bobkitty tune up. If you know what I mean.
Not looking to stirr things up but look at the facts and use your head, he plead guilty...right? or was he found guilty? clear me up on this if I read it wrong.

Let's see...definately speeding,stole some copenhagen from safeway for me and my brother when we were younger, bad move there, got busted in high school for drinking at a party by the police, which was at my house, parents were gone, you can imagine the phone call they got while on vacation. Looking back, that was some stupid stuff.....but mostly speeding is my downfall....got a lead foot I guess.
 
I had posted a reply in another post about laws regarding to game that I have knowingling broke...I will repeat this for you. I got busted around 30 + years ago for not having a new lisence on January 1st while hunting ducks about 1 mile from my house. I was wrong and I admit it. Got caught shoplifting a candy bar when I was about 12. Again I am asking did deerking plead guilty or was found guilty. It matters because it says alot about what he could of got and what he plea bargined for. So I AM THE WHTELK THAT WONDERS IF BOBcat EVER READS OTHER POSTS AND CAN REMEMBER THEM.

For a variety of reasons - none of which you want to hear - I haven't been on MM in quite awhile, but I've been hearing the inevitable rumors about Jeff's problems from a number of people for months. I avoided coming on MM to do "research" and read the opinions of individuals who didn't have all the facts. I chose to wait until the case, if any, was adjudicated. Now, the facts are out.

I didn't intend to post my own opinions and observations on this topic because, like a number of people on this site, I consider (emphasis on present tense, even though we haven't communicated in several months) Jeff a friend and felt a bit sheepish about the whole thing. Jeff helped me out on some information on muleys and I helped him out with some information on Coues deer. I thoroughly enjoyed our frequent email exchanges and phone conversations and could've (did) talked to him for hours.

My first observation on this issue - particularly some of the more apologetic posts - is, if I were a publicist for PETA, HSUS or some other "animal rights" or anti-hunting organization, I would cut and paste a number of these comments and use them in my advertising. The headline would read, "Hunters 'claim' to police their own...".

Jeff was an icon here on MM - to me and a number of others; I just knew the guy had "figured it (how to consistently kill trophy quality mule deer) out" and I wanted to learn from him. The unfortunate thing about friends and icons in any context, is that we tend to judge them less harshly than we do someone who's a bit farther away from us. A guy in Maine poaches a monster whitetail in the North woods and we'll be unanimous in our condemnation and proclaim the need to "police our own". Someone closer to home poaches a deer and we'll lecture one another about the need to avoid "judging" someone.

I read one post that said, "...not everyone who pleads guilty actually committed the crime." Really? Who among us would plead guilty to a crime we didn't commit? I know attorneys regularly advise their clients to plead guilty to lesser criminal charges to avoid prosecution and conviction on more serious charges and the expense of attorney's fees, which doesn't say much for some attorneys. However, what frequently occurs in the course of criminal prosecution is that police and prosecutors build a case around a set of provable charges and will plead away a few charges for a guilty plea on others; the distinction being that all of them are legitimate charges - some of which are more provable than others - in an effort to avoid the time and expense of a courtroom trial. I know of whence I speak on this issue; I work with federal agents and prosecutors.

Furthermore, the attitude that we've all broken laws and cannot voice our frank opinions on what Jeff did is absurd. Stealing a pack of gum and robbing a bank are both stealing, but the consequences are vastly different. Likewise, speeding and repeated poaching are both illegal, but they are hardly equivalent. The fact that he left at least one carcass to rot just compounds the matter in the minds of many of us.

There is something here from which all of us can learn a lesson. I imagine that Jeff has been advised by his attorney not to "come clean", especially in a public forum like MM. However, the fact that he gave his word that he would post a statement here on MM should outweigh the advice of his attorney - especially in light of the fact that his case has been adjudicated. He has acknowledged his guilt privately to some of his friends and publicly before a court of law. I, for one, would like to know what went through his mind and why he felt the need to maintain the facade of the expert hunter when so many of us like him for far more than his hunting skills; I suspect his story would strike a chord with many of us and further emphasize the need for us to police our own.

Say what you will about the above responses or those in previous posts on the matter, I think one of the underlying themes here is, given the choices of associates we all have..
who would you want to be our friend.... ?
those who publicly vilify you in your darkest moment, or those who tell you...
You fugged up something bad, but your still someone I care for & wish the best for.

I want the latter group as my friends.
