Guys,

I am searching for a mulie hunt for a good friend. His hunt budget (not travel, etc) is about $6k. What would be your recommendations? A great place in AB would be cool, but he is open to anything. I really want to help this guy out if possible. I think the solid opportunity at a 180 deer is what he is looking for. Thanks!

interesting perspectives. best hunt for 6k, just want a 180 buck. . . I'd say those are different things. You can buy a 180 buck for $6k, but the best muley hunt is subjective and i'll bet you could have it for a lot less.

Based on what I've read lately, $6k is about bottom line for a good alberta hunt. there are cheaper ones, but I'd say look around colorado or wyoming for a guided MD hunt. $6 grand should buy a 180 buck. . .

Check out this guy if you want a good opportunity in AB. . .

"Brent Sinclair is perhaps the most accomplished guide/outfitter in North America. Not only has he personally hunted most every North American big game species, but he is legally able to guide for all but a handful of them ? and, make no mistake, he's working on being able to guide for those, too. How is that possible with 28 species spread out over 13 Canadian provinces, 50 American states and the country of Mexico?

Well, in addition to owning and operating his own outfitting/guiding business, called Porcupine Creek Outfitters Limited, Sinclair has developed a hunt consulting and contracting business that has allowed him to work with a host of other outfitters. Just understand that by consulting and contracting I do not mean he has turned himself into a one-man booking agency. The difference is, he personally guides or accompanies his clients on most hunts. In the few instances where he can't, such as on a polar bear hunt, he accompanies his client into the field and assists with the hunt....."

if I had the money " bucks and bulls, kim bonette straight up look at his website...

I agree with Manny, not because i'm biased and work for B&B, but we do offer some great chances at 180 and better deer in Utah on private lands. It's definately worth looking in too. Just keep in mind, money doesn't buy you a 180 buck, it buys you an opportunity, and big mule deer bucks are tough.

It is a business paying for it, so he can't add on a lot of money. I am going to Sonora in late Dec-early jan, and tried to get him to go, but it is just over his max.

Slamdunk, I have talked with you guys at SCI and know you are a great outfit, but what kind of mulie hunts do you have in his price range that have really high odds a 180 type buck. I know it doesn't buy you a deer, but high probablility of a quality shot, etc. We know the game, and just want a hunt that produces year in year out. I thought most of your hunts for 180+ deer were $10K plus?

I will give him the porcupine creek info as well. Thanks and lok forward to more feedback.

$6,000 will not buy you a 180+ buck. $6,000 can buy you an opportunity to hunt a ranch that does produce 180+ bucks for some of the hunters but not all. Any ranch that is averaging 180+ will run you $9000+. Good luck and I hope you find the hunt your looking for.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-14-07 AT 06:11AM (MST)[p]Bucks and Bulls who guide on the 275,000 acre ranch the LDS Church owns. They will get you a 180 buck. The ranch is free range. Or ask about their guided hunts on the Goshute Indian Reservation in the West Desert. They get to hunt that Res. when ever they want.

Check out their web pages.

TimHerald-
We do offer some of the best trophy mule deer hunts in the western US, do doubt about it. I am not at liberty to discuss pricing or specific hunting areas, but after reading other replies to this post, most everything i have read is true. We do have the LDS Ranch (Deseret)and take great deer on it. Some "other" leases we have are definately high dollar hunts, but yield some tremendous bucks for our clients.
Check out our mule deer pix on the website, they speak for themselves. If interested, you can call the office and talk with someone that can give you more details.
Good luck!!
And thanks to everyone else on the good "plugs" for B&B!!

Also look at the TAGS section of Cabelas web site.

Also look at the site www.hunts.net

But, from what I have heard and seen, if you can go with Bucks and Bulls in Lindon Utah you will impressed and have a great time.

It's only money right?...oh by the way I get suspicious when a guides take pictures with the hunter way behind the buck to create an illusional effect that the buck is bigger then really is...

Nice pics and animals but do they all have to be "Chucky" photos? (saddlemountainoutfitters). How 'bout researching a DIY hunt in NM, 2B or 2C. These units border the famed Jicarilla Indian Reservation. 180 bucks are a definate possibility with a little home work.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-22-07 AT 07:37AM (MST)[p]I quess if you can't tell how big a buck is without worrying where the hunter is this might bother you! Buy the way only half of the pictures were taken that way and the others have the hunters touching the antlers.Sorry if you can't tell a big buck from a small one by just looking at the deer!

still fishy in my book, cause the ones where the guys were standing way back were not all that big my friend...

had it happen to me with an outfitter once like dah...

You'll pay alot more than 6K to hunt on Kim's leases (unless he's got some new ones I unaware of). I'd like to see some of these guaranteed 180 bucks in the 6k range. Trophy mule deer hunting is a little less predicatable IMO.

Really not trying to start anything but on the hunt cost page, what exactly is a "Controlled Hunt"?? Are these not free range mule deer? Nice deer though, doesn't look like real tough country to hunt.

Manny, Some of them aren't that big but the majority of them are good deer my friend.
Oregonmuley, He does both free ranging and controlled hunts. He kills alot better free ranging than the high fence deer. It is hard as hell to grow a mule deer. They just are not very hardy. Call and talk to him. I have nothing to do with him, I just know they kill alot of big deer.

The trophy fees for the saddle mountain guys are wild. How would you like to get lucky and see a buck that is going to score 210+ and have to pass because you know you can't pay the additional $10,000?! Crazy!

Tim,

I would take a look at Kirk Kennedy's Colorado RFWL hunts. I thought he averages right around 180 on those hunts. Depending on the season they are $6,000 or $6,500 and they take 200" deer every year (gross of course).

You will not hunt with a better group of people anywhere. I have not hunted the RFWL hunts, but I have hunted Mule Deer, Elk and Antelope with him in New Mexico. All of the hunts I thought were 1-on-1 in Colorado.

Texas-hunter, Watch out they are going to get on him about taking the pictures with the guy behind the deer.

elkhuntr' I'll let this one go cause I know they didn't show their best bucks first....LOL...they've take much better bucks then they show on their web page...

Bearspaw Outfitting out of Peace River Alberta.

One of the best outfitters in North America i would argue...

2005 stats...30 hunters harvested 30 mule deer with 9 of those over 200 inch..

The bad news is there hunts are 8500$..but the good news is they are booked until 2010 so your buddy will have time to save the rest of the cash......:):):)

Tim, I'll agree with Muzzy on Bearpaw. I have hunted with Scott and the number of big mule deer taken and personally seen was unreal and we were WTD hunting. I still remember that huge 4x4 we saw in the non-hunting zone by the Peace River opposite side from the pulp mill. What an absolute monster...I am no scoring expert, but if the other bucks we were seeing were mid 180's - this guy was every bit 200" Typical.

As for outfitters, Scott runs a tremendous operation with a great crew and very comfortable lodging. Everything is organized and well taken care of. It is amazing how similar Kirk Kennedy and Scott Taylors operations are 2500 miles apart. Almost down to the lodges being close to identical in setup.

You can hunt in the next year with Kirk (probably) and Scott will take a few years to go. You are not going to go wrong with either in my opinion.

How 'bout hunting HUGE free-ranging transplanted Kaibab Mule Deer on a private island?

Evidently some rich guy got ahold of some deer years and years ago and brought them to his private ranch off the coast of California. Now they offer hunts for these monsters.

I wonder if Boone and Crockett looks at deer surrounded by ocean waters the same as they look at deer surrounded by high-fence???
I'd be interested in knowing...
